Whiz likes to sling the ball, yes... But even with gunslinger QB Mettenberger, Whiz tried to run the ball. Drafted 2 ball carriers... With a rookie QB, he's going to want to get the ball gone ASAP. The run game will very much be a factor.

Mariota has one of the preseasons highest yards per attempt, if anything he's the one opening up the running lanes for our RB's

So @ RB/FB and TE we have:

    Sankey / Cobb / Dex / Andrews / Fowler vs Walker / Stevens / Fasano / Supernaw / Coffman...

(Note: I left out the 2 or 3 'camp bodies' from that list; they won't make it)

Sankey and Cobb are locks. As is Walker..

My question is, how many of each do we usually keep?

From what I've seen so far, I think drafting Fowler in the 4th was a BIG mistake. We should have drafted a position of REAL need instead.... Course I could be wrong, but early indications point in that direction.

I mean, how often to we use a FB anyway? I also know that throughout draft history LB and OL (in particular) are 2 positions that you can find GOLD (or at least very serviceable players) in the fourth, and both are MUCH more important than FB right now - ESPECIALLY LB where we are paper thin behind the four starters. Plus, we did draft Potasi in the 3rd, so it should have been LB (not wait until the 6th round to draft someone.)

Wasn't Stevens good enough lining up back there? Couldn't Andrews, with his size and power, be good enough as well?

Also, where is that DL (3-4 end) we drafted in the forth - Blackson? Anyone see him... Haven't really noticed him so far in camp / preseason...

I'm not really sure why we drafted Fowler....I would have much rather gone with a 3-4 OLBer in that spot...but my guess is that Fowler might see action in a single back set where his main job is to pass protect...

Andrews can handle pass blocking, I think we could have Fowler come in and be a movable chess peice that can confuse defenses similar to how the Patriots used Aaron Hernandez. Anytime Hernandez came in he put a strain on the defense, hopefully Fowler grows into that type of role..

Tennessean says that we may be looking to add a RB in light of Cobb's injury and the general unimpressive performance from Sankey and limited experience from some of the other backs.

I'd like to bring in Pierre Thomas. He's not an everydown back, but he's better than a lot of the options we have right now. And competition is a good thing.
