Excluding QB's, is Trent Richardson the worst top 3 pick of all time?

Richardson was only good because he lead with his helmet and BLASTED through gaps. He was a one trick pony.

Bigger defenders who tackle better made it harder and when the "lead with the helmet" penalty was instituted Richardson's game was reduced to what you see now.

No doubt it was a BAD pick.

Yeah I remember the game he blew up Kurt Coleman on the birds leading with the helmet. Only game I ever saw him look good in...lol

Not just a bad pick, Trent Richardson set the RB position back several years. Theres now some blight cast upon RB's after his failures. RB's not getting drafted as high as they normally did, not getting paid what they normally did in free agency, that all started when he fell on his face around 2013 or so....
He burned not one but two franchises, teams seem scared to commit to the RB today...

That didn't have as much to do with it as much as Ray Rice, MJD, Alfred Morris, Arian Foster, Matt Forte, and others being found in the second round and later.

You can just find tons of examples of guys who have been in for a few years that have had success before Richardson had a chance to screw it up.

Most drafts have always offered 4-5 good NFL RB's, but something happened recently that shifted GM's focus away from RB's in the top of the drafts. I think it had something to do with Trent Richardson, because up til his time in the league teams had no problems reaching for RB's early. He ends up being a bust and teams aren't so sure of what they thought they knew about RB's.

There was no reason Leveon Bell and Carlos Hyde should have fallen past the 10-15 range of their drafts, any other time before then those 2 are top 10 picks.. Richardson was suppose to be his drafts Eddie George, then when he's not its like uh-oh.. I think that shook a lot of RB needy teams up. Have to remember he came from a program that is considered as good as the worst NFL teams, he was suppose to just come right in and play like he always had..

Watch as soon as he's forgotten how RB's suddenly rebound and start being top 10 picks again... Trent Richardson is a curse to RB's allover.

    Trent Richardson and Johnny Manziel...

... only the Browns. Only the Browns. They got all those picks from the Falcons so that the Falcons could draft Julio... and they now have absolutely nothing to show for it.

His time in the NFL was only two drafts. One of which, the best prospects the NCAA had to offer were Sankey, Hyde, and Hill. Two guys with character concerns and well....Sankey.

Then this year we had Gurley and Gordon. Plus most teams are using an RBBC approach now. Why would they spend a 1st when they can get 2-3 guys for lower picks and on the cheap?

So... what was worse? How the Browns squandered their king's ransom from the Falcons (and even the second chance they got from the Colts!) or the Redskins mortgaging their future on RGIII and failing epically?

My vote goes to the Browns, because that was failure spread out over years.

Browns got something back though, and they moved on. Redskins are still suffering from that fiasco.
