You're right, the former back ups don't but I'm speculating why he looks decent, product of that system. When Tom went down and those guys came in to play, they looked great and lots of teams came after them to start for them. But they haven't fared well outside NE.

 

You started this thread, and brought up Mett in post numero uno.

 

How does it prove him wrong when, IN FACT, it proves YOU wrong! We are not suggesting Mett should have said anything. That's again, something YOU are making up! The stats are there. He wracked up a huge percentage of his yards in garbage time. The stats show it. The QBR shows it. You have shown NOTHING to refute these other than to say you've debunked this (when you haven't) or to call ppl names. LOL

Let's see, on 3rd and 15, is the D gonna play a full prevent D? No. So stop insinuating nonsense. What he said is exactly right. The D doesn't care if they give up 14yds if it's 3rd and 15 so they are garbage yards. Again, stats and QBR proves this.

So you're saying the ONLY garbage stats come in the 4th quarter? So if a QB's team is stinking and keep getting themselves into 3rd and 20 and the QB keeps throwing completions for 19 yards and since he has so FEW total throws that those 19yd passes drastically skew his yards per attempt avg, you think that is valid for projecting what he can do in normal situations? SMH

Most young QB's complete passes for a good chunk of 3rd and longs without converting the first down. Take what the defense gives you...which is WHY they are garbage yards that skew stats to make them look better than they are.

You try to say Mett is so great on the one hand then hide behind..."you're judging him like a vet." We are simply evaluating what is or isn't there. You are making stuff up and have no basis for it when we can explain his 'impressive' stats. Context is what you are missing my friend. The word is context.

 

In case you didn't watch the games, Mett DID hold the ball too long and took too long to read defenses at times. It also didn't help that our coach sometimes hung him out to dry but calling a 5 or 7 step drop and a 5 man protection with guys coming off the street going one v one with no help. Add in a underwhelming run game mostly due to blocking (again) and he was put in a lot of bad positions.

Part of you not getting what we are saying is that you keep trying to argue everything is all this or all that. He either bombs the ball every play or he's a check down artist. He is neither.

He made a lot of nice throws down the field at times. But a lot of the time, with 3rd and forever far too much, he took what the defense gave him. Which is what he's supposed to do. That's not a negative about Mett, but his stats are skewed because he was put in so many of those situations. The skewed stats you point to as proof he's a good young QB with great potential. We are simply saying, pump the breaks. Thos stats are skewed by a lot of cirucmstances and a low number of total throws.

We are not saying he sucks, we are saying he hasn't earned a starting spot let alone crown him a top 10 QB as your stat projections for him indicate your feelings for him.

Afterall, I have said I like Mett and and happy to have the 'problem' of Mariota and Mett. I think between the 2, we should have at least one franchise QB. It is also the reason I wouldn't trade him right now except for a very steep price!

I'm happy to have both and feel pretty good about our QB situation. Now if I just could feel that good about our OL or defense...
