It's because of the prorated signing bonus. Since that is paid in full and basically amortized over a period of years to minimize a 10 mil single year hit, we have the baggage for that period of proration. In this case finalized in 2016 for around 4.1 mil. We bear no responsibility for the salary which is 6.5 mil this year and where they are saying we save 6.5 mil.

OK I got it now. I assumed ANY unpaid money was transfered to the other team.

One other thing. Someone keeps saying a $200k savings this year...if we aren't paying his salary, wouldn't it be much more than that considering I know his salary is much more than $200k.?

It is, the way they prorated the bonus, it counts 2.1 mil or so this year and around 4.5 or so next year. BUT, in reality, you are saving 13 mil because of his 6.5 mil salary this year and next which the Falcons now own.

We also saved 100% of Mariota's salary in this deal too because he would have been killed if Levitre went in to "block".

Exactly my point. No matter how you look at it, the Titans just saved 13 mil and got 2 picks out of a player they didn't want.

I understand the signing bonus thing...but I don't see how the savings could be counted as anything less than his salary that isn't being paid. Lol

No. We take his dead money for this season's prorated amount $2.1mil and save his salary (6.5mil) for a savings of about $4.4mil this season. But because he was traded AFTER June 1, the rest of his dead money gets pushed to next season. So he will cost us about $4.2mil in cap space next season when we'll need more cap space and instead, we have lots of cap we aren't using this year.

Fantastic they got a pick or two for him at all, but we still lose a good chunk of cap because unlike the fans, they took way too long to figure this out.

And yes, Webster must have something on Dimitroff who's usually a pretty smart GM. This will be his dumbest move unless Levitre pulls an Akeem Ayers and suddenly plays well like he was SUPPOSED to here!

Exactly. It's the same cap savings if we'd outright cut him.

At least we got something for him. Webster's cred just took a boost in my book.

No, we eat the signing bonus. They are only responsible for his contract. We ALREADY paid him his signing bonus so it's just the hit to our cap. Most of that will be next year because it happened after June1.

Though we still might lose him because we are starting Poutasi at RT. I didn't watch this last game yet, but so far Poutasi has given up at least one free rusher to our QB the last 2 pre-season games and he won't survive that for 16 games.
