I am happy and optimistic about Mariota. But I think that if VY had this system (read option, pace, etc.), I think the franchise could've have been much more successful over the last 8 years or so. I think Mariota's situation is different from VY in that he is a little more polished skill wise than VY, but the system is very helpful. Why wouldn't you tailor an offense to fit your QB's considerable skill set?

I think if Mariota can come close to VY's rookie year, we will all be very pleased. But I am also anxious to see what Mariotta does against a good NFL D. I also hope the running game comes along a little better and we use the TE's more.

VY did have this system, do you not recall 2008-2009? Very similar read-option stuff

VY's mechanics were flawed tho, took too long to get the ball out. Mariota has no wasted movements, he's throwing passes within 3 seconds, defenses cant react

VY's reads were either he run outside or his RB pound it off guard. VY never had an option to pass out of the Read option like Mariota did yesterday. Fisher only wanted to run off guard (its amazing the CJ was able to rip off so many long runs running inside like that).

If VY had this offense, then we are in trouble, because Defenses caught on to VY pretty quickly, and the coaching staff had no answers for him, and thus the implosion and the rest is history. I am hoping that this system is more NFL ready than what ever VY was running, and it looks the part. Now if we could only get a more potent running game, I think we may have a winner in Mariota.

I fret that once a D takes away those short slants, will we have the WR's and TE's to get open so Mariota can get the ball to them. Mariota will hold on to the ball and read progressions before he runs. Sometimes, a QB with his skill set will have to "run WR's open" like McNair used to do. I don't know if Douglas and Wright are the WR's that can get open by themselves. If Mariota has to run them open,. he may start taking big hits like McNair and Vick did.

    This thread seems very early.

That said, I wanted Williams/trade back. Looks like the FO made a good choice so far. I'm reserving judgement and expectations till mid season though.

Never as good or bad as it looks in the NFL. I do believe in the "eye" test and Mariota passes that with flying colors. Time will tell if his primary desire is to be great or simply employed.

I would have gladly rolled with Mett if we had a blockbuster trade. But one did not come that Webster felt was worth the pick and I respect that. Webster gets credit for that good decision.

What about Bishop Sankey? Where are his haters? Dude balled out, had over 6-yards a carry and 2 TD's.

I guarantee if you were on rwdskins boards after rg3's first game, there's be plenty of the same sentiments as we have. That said, mariota looked 10000x more suited for the game than rg3 ever did.

did the titans really get the QB that'll bridge amazing athleticism with elite passing?? I never thought it could happen, especially to us, part if the reason I really just wanted to skip the QB and build a team this draft. I wasn't ready to put my trust in a QB, especially a Oregon duck QB.

Honestly the last few months, id have random visions of mariota throwing laser passes and dominating games. I thought to myself, nah, we don't get this lucky. Yet yesterdays game coulda been plucked straight from those visions. Mariotas made me a believer. He just looked so legit yesterday
