You're right. After one game, every rookie is a future Hall-of-Famer until proven otherwise.

Who said anything about being a HOF? Still sour grapes for wanting Mettenberger to "get another chance?" Why?

Why does Mariota HAVE to be compared to flops, in your mind? Why does he get compared to VY and not Steve McNair? Why does he have to be compared to Locker rather than another rookie sensation from not too far back....Dan Marino? They both have comparable passing skills...accuracy, quick release, etc.

People who compare Mariota to flops simply have an axe to grind, or don't want to admit they underestimated the guy. Paul Kuharsky, the ESPN writer for the Titans was in full hard-head mode, against Mariota, prior to the draft. To hear him talk now, you'd think he was a Mariota fan all along.

More than anything, the STAFF LOVES THE GUY!!! Yet, you're still hanging out with the pessimist crowd. Why?

WRONG...DEAD WRONG!!! And I get tired of all the haters piling on the guy for reasons that had nothing to do with his departure. VINCE YOUNG'S PLAY ON THE FIELD SAVED JEFF FISHER's JOB....the season before he was cut. Kerry Collins was stinking it up, and our record was as abysmal as it was last year. IIRC, Vince Young comes in and WINS ALL REMAINING GAMES BUT ONE. But you don't want to mention that. Why? Because it totally destroys your "VINCE YOUNG SUCKED" narrative.

He DID NOT suck. He had maturity issues that blew up in his face and made him practically toxic to other teams. He was out of the league for a while in between stints as a backup and that made him rusty, but the damage was already done.

Point is...if people are going to hate on a guy, at least get your story straight. Blame VY for his lack of maturity and Jake for being so fragile, but enough with the nonsense that they sucked as QB's. Rusty Smith...he sucked. Chris Simms...he sucked. Charlie Whitehurst...well you get the idea. But VY and Locker could play if not for their odd issues.

    Vince Youngs career stats:
    Vince Young, QB at NFL.com

More INTs than TDs, completion percentage below 60, never played 16 games in a season, only 6 seasons in the NFL. For a 3rd overall pick, he was a bust.

What was his Win-Loss record? That's right...considerably more wins than losses, and was close to 60% completion percentage. Keep hating if you want....you'll find a way to try to put a bad spin on it, but the guy won a lot more games here than he lost, and in fact, we haven't really had that since. I was just fine with VY's play before he had the meltdown that got him gone.

Locker could never stay healthy long enough to string together a lot of wins in a season, so VY was the last QB here that was a winner on the field. He went off on his boss and that's gonna get your fired no matter what line of work you are in. If he had kept his composure and worked his butt off to elevate his game, he probably would still be playing.

You are putting a lot of words in my mouth. The entire point was that ONE GAME proves little when evaluating how good ANY player in this league is going to be.

All those who think Mariota is the next Marino can hope but we'll all have to wait for it to play out. Same for those who think he'll bust. Let's let the kid play some football before judging him.

I was making the point that, though players have great starts in the league, a season or two (especially ONE GAME) does not a career make.

I'm a PSL holder. That means I pay to watch the Titans win games. Why would I not want Mariota to succeed? Did I think he was the right choice at #2? No. But, once he was chosen, I was 100% on board and hopeful better football minds than mine had made the right decision.

So far, it looks great. But to compare him to Marino. Or start "I told you so" threads is, IMO, stupid to do at this point.

Spend a little time watching game film. When defenses figured out his game, they adjusted and he never had the mental capacity or heart to better himself. The Titans managed to win games despite his play.

Teams recycle trash QBs all the time yet someone with Young's skills couldn't stay in the league? Only one reason. SUCK. <-- I can do bold and colors too.

SUCKS is what SUCKS does. I was a fan of both players because I am a fan of the team. But what determines whether or not a player is good in this league is what they do on the field. Young was bad because he didn't have the right mind for the game. In Locker's case, he stayed broken so couldn't do the job. In the end, both SUCKED.

    It isn't that complicated.

Mariota gets compared to all other rookie QBs

    Most rookie QBs flop.

    Ergo

Mariota gets compared to QBs that flopped.

I call your "axe to grind" idiom and raise you another. Something about putting the cart before the horse.
