After VY and Locker anybody would be doubtful about taking another QB at #2. Both those guys are out of the league.

We also had a guy many thought was a franchise QB type already on the roster.

Then there are the players you could have drafted instead. Or the possibility of trading back and stockpiling picks. It wasn't a slam dunk!

If that was not enough there is the simple fact that since Dan Fouts over 40 years ago there has not been a single quality nfl QB to come out of that school. Akili smith and Joey Harrington were monumental busts.

Then there is the luck factor. If Mariota is taken by the bucs we probably draft Winston and this thread doesn't exist. Not yet anyway.

If Titans drafted Winston, I'd probably never be a fan at all. I was so so so so so pissed off when they drafted Locker. I hated Locker so much. He was so garbage at UW and I could not believe my Titans drafted him so high. I thought at best Locker was 4th rounder. I literally stopped watching Titan games because of Locker.

All my friends called me and laughed about Locker going to Tennessee. We're all Oregon grads and Locker never once looked decent playing against us.

And yet, Smith and Harrington were both products of Jeff Tedford, as is Aaron Rodgers.
Going back that far, the school and college coach have nothing to do with it. Especially since the Oregon offense looks nothing like the one they ran in the '90s.

Of course we could go back to the last really successful 'bama QBs. Like Stabler or Namath,...
    How long ago was that?

So true. I hate stats in sports. They are so flawed. This is a prime example as when they say a team has beat another team something like 20 of the last times. Yet they wouldn't bring up the fact of all the turnover each year let alone over the 5 years for all those games. It holds no relevance.

Well, MM8 did look good, and hopefully he will continue to do great. The thing that we forget is that his accuracy and mobility is already there. He needs a good crew around him. How does everyone feel about the players around him? I guarantee if he had at least 1 more wide receiver standout it would make life easier and pose another threat. Now, he did throw to different receivers which was great and they did make the receptions, but there wasn't much separation. The throws were just on target. What in your opinion is the most critical spot that we need to upgrade?

I think Mariotta is going to be a good qb. I still would have taken 4+ top draft picks over him. It is nice to have a good QB but you see how that is translating in wins? He cannot do it alone.
