Mariota is a rookie with a lot to learn no doubt . He will have his ups and downs no doubt. Bad games will happen to rookies. Nothing to get overly concerned about, unless he just looks completely lost week after week after week.

The real thing we need to look for is, is Mariota making the same mistakes week after week or is he correcting those mistakes.

However, in just 2 games he has shown plenty of flashes to be excited about ... as the year goes on, I expect to see more of the flashes and less of the mistakes.

Even still though, you can't expect him to me on A-Rods level until year 4 or 5.

Yea he said he knew where the pressure would be coming from but they just didn't execute when it mattered

Mentally he's on point, but without adequate time he struggled

Mariota was missing EASY throws all game long.

Make all the excuses you want fanboys, but it doesn't change anything.

Good lord, the blinders people wear for their favorite player.

He looked great last week. He looked terrible this week. He's a rookie. Happens.

No need to throw a blanket over it or blame other players when he sucks.

It isn't nonsense. I'm just simply not some bias homer.

You guys have issues separating fandom from reality.

No one is saying that Mariota played a great game, but to put 100% of the blame on him is just blind haterism.

in reality 1 player is almost never 100% to blame for a teams' failures. Mariota should shoulder some of the blame, but to sit there and say that the OL had nothing to do with it is just as ridiculous as someone saying that it was all on the OL.

Realistically, Mariota played his 2nd game in the NFL and struggled. The OL added to his struggles.

I went back and re watched the game and I have to disagree with this. Did he miss some easy throws? Yes. Was it all game long? Somewhat. Was it a lot of easy throws he missed? No. Honestly he only had a few missed throws that you could really say he flat out missed the receiver. However there were some that the receivers were able to get a hand on that they just dropped. It's unrealistic to expect any quarterback to be deadly accurate behind the constant pressure mariota faced all game long. The biggest problem today was obviously the performance from the Oline. Penalties, missing certain assignments, communication and just flat out bad excecution all game long from the entire unit when it came to pass protection. On top of that our wide receivers struggled immensely against the man coverage all game long. It was kinda embarrassing to watch and is what led to mariota holding onto the ball longer than what he wanted too. I saw mariotas comment about he pretty much knew where the pressure and blitzes were coming from and as I rewatched the game it was evident that for the most part he did. The problem was that the offensive line repeatedly whiffed on vblocking their defender especially on the outside. It was a terrible day for our rts all the way up until the last play of the game. I wouldn't describe mariotas day as just terrible. It was an uneven performance. He showed some rookie mistakes of course, but for every mistake he countered it with some pretty nice plays that showcased for makes him so special. That last dt to beckham has to be his best play of the season so far when it comes to doing what the great qbs in this league do. Going through all of their progressions and putting the ball right where only their receiver can get it. Mariota has shown he is comfortable going through his progression and disecting the defensive. It's time for the other 10 guys on the field to get on board.

I am not a homer, but not sure how you can call him a bust?

Agreed, he struggled yet he almost pulled a McNair at the end to put us back in the game.

3rd and longs do not help out any QB in this league......teams will just tee off

Had to read this thread while not logged in as I blocked Deuce because of his negative vibe 2 years ago. Marriott still threw 2 tds and no interceptions, I'll take that in a rookie QB's second NFL game ever.
