Don't Want Mariota Abused/Ruined Liked David Carr

I don't know. I thought the C called the D line and LB blocking schemes based on play and the QB identifies likely blitz patterns to change. Also notes hot routes. Somebody with more experience can comment. I know when Mawae was here with VY our line was better.

He wants to stay home and throw from the pocket, but behind this line he's going to have to use his legs a lot to buy time or elude the pressure.. Generally I dont want my QB running much but if he excels at it and is forced into using it, whatever works...

 

MM using his legs to escape could really help the OL out too, it'll slow the pass rush down a bit and make them stay in their lanes. He hasn't seemed to want to go yet, but just circling back in the pocket, creating more fumbling opportunities.

He needs to show the element of escaping, because that will cause some D Coordinators to assign spy responsibilities to a LB, freeing up a RB/TE/WR

 

We need to run to setup the play action. Probably the only way to keep Mariota from being exposed to so many hits. We didn't do this last week and made ourselves one dimensional.

Did you even watch the game? That's the entire reason we were down 21-0 because we never tried to establish the run. Whiz thought Mariota could just come out and replicate his performance in Tampa against a real defense. Not going to happen. It's common sense to get the run game going to take pressure off a new QB. Apparently you didn't watch the second half either because as soon as we started to run the ball we were making progress. That's the only reason we scored the 14 points we had. How about watching the game next time buddy.
