Esquire's Noah Davis has released a series of articles titled "The Toughest Position in Football Is..." where he sits down with current and former players to get their inside perspective on what made their jobs so hard...

You can see all the stories here in this link.

Uhm, there is one option missing. I vote for the

"coming up with a new jcb thread every 10 minutes."

That has to be the toughest job by far.

all kidding aside, I think there is no question that it is the QB position. You have to see everything. You are the one guy that has to be worried about getting killed on every play......while paying attention downfield and making good decisions. Its a wonder more retired QB's aren't full on grey headed like Favre at 40 years old.

edit: now someone is gonna tell me that Favre is actually 43 and give me his birthdate, favorite color and tell me he is a Taurus or something.... that's not the point. He is recently retired and solid grey.

The way I look at it is mistakes. Players aren't just good, they are mistake eliminators. So just look at every position and break down mistakes. Mistakes are what lose you games most times.

The amount of snaps played makes mistakes more likely as you handle the ball more than everybody else. So obviously this is the quarterback. Quarterback is given the most opportunity for mistakes.

The quality of the mistake. Bar none the QB can make the biggest mistakes. Wrong line adjustments, taking sacks when they could throw the ball away, throwing picks, missing handoffs. So many game changing mistakes can be made by a QB with there main action, the throw.

No position comes close. Blown coverage for secondary can be covered up with other players on the field. Running back fumbling the ball does not compare to and INT when they have a chance to recover.

This is hard to answer. I can think of two positions being tough in a mental and physical way. Obviously QB is mentally tough, but I think the OL that has it physically tough.

I'm sure I'm thinking too much into it.

It takes different skill sets for every position. There's not many, if any player that can effectively play multiple positions on the field on an even average level. I say every position is tough in its own right. They're all tough and they're all something average people can't do effectively.

Even in professional football, you only have a select number of players that are elite at a particular position.

Cornerback for sure. In today's nfl they get flagged if they breathe on a wr too hard and they have to make sure a wr isn't defenseless before they hit them

CB has to be close to QB and LT as one of the hardest.

Physically its RB, no one takes a pounding like a RB does, but mentally thats an easy job to learn....
