He's trying to use a short passing game because he doesn't want Mariota getting killed (though not sure the thinking of expecting Stevens to block Super Mario 1v1). Of course, if they know you're not gonna throw it past 15yds, it gives the DB's the ability to play much tighter and you get a lot more contested catches which result in more drops.

Same reason Butch won't get run in Knoxville. Their jobs are codependent.

They will prop each other up as long as possible and they knew taking Mariota bought two more years to put this team together.

If Whiz had run out there with Mett and started likely 0-4 the heat would be Philben level.

That is a personnel issue. Coaching can't fix that.

 

Interesting you mention HOW we played with Munch while saying we COULD have a much better record with Whiz. Munchak finished with a much better record than Whiz did last year and that was after we seriously 'upgraded' the talent which netted us TWO WINS!!!

We are currently on pace for 4-12!

And yes, people would be a lot happier about Whiz if we had a winning record!!! Moral victories don't get you into the playoffs!

You just can't hold teams forever in this league though. Offense actually finishes some drives and those late TDs don't even matter.
