Meanwhile, Shane Ray is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a grade 2 MCL sprain..knees are no joke, protect it.

 

Problem with that is Mett's value is very, very low at this point. All that fan talk about "trade him for a 2nd!" was just pure nonsense and delusion. We simply weren't gonna get that kind of value for a guy who went 0-6 as a starter and had more turnovers than TDs last year.

If Mett plays well when called upon this season then that's good news. That means we can either get more value for him after this season, or we have a very good backup (I'd actually prefer the latter). If he comes in and sucks, well no big loss. He was a 6th round pick most of us weren't expecting much from anyway.

I really can't see any QB controversy coming from this. Mariota has been better than expected this year and has really only had one complete disaster of a game. The more ignorant posters here can talk about Mett > Mariota all they want but at the end of the day Mariota was the 2nd overall pick and hasn't even been close to bad enough to have to worry about losing his job.

 

Just some information for anyone interested. If he truly has a grade 2 sprain, he shouldn't play this week. Depending on the severity, he should be held out for 2-4 weeks. Put him a hinged knee brace similar to the one OL wear.

There was a study done by Najibi and Albright that showed the only injury that HKB can really prophylactically protect against are MCL injuries. They don't really protect against ACL tears (which is probably why Brady stopped wearing one).

What that probably means for Mariota, is that he might be wearing a brace on that knee indefinitely when he comes back. Especially considering he sprained that same ligament back in 2013. Expect him to be less mobile while wearing that brace.

 

Then Mariota is one tough SOB because he played half a game with it and was walking fine the next day.

I understand knees are an important part of the human body and it's painful to do anything with a jacked up knee. But Mariota didn't seem to be in the kind of pain that would make him miss 3-4 weeks.

 

I'm not advocating a switch or a controversy. But this is RG3/Cousins all over possibly. Everyone knows it's MMs team, but if one sliver of doubt creeps into his mind and he starts to over analyze his own play to the point it's detrimental, the mistake was keeping Mett on the team.

Nobody would've ever clamored for CBJ if MM was struggling, it's almost a way of protecting your franchise from himself and controversy rumours. Mett should've been gone 2 months ago

 

Mariota doesn't need to play until that knee is okay, plain and simple. We aren't making the playoffs anyway so whether or not he is better than Meckenburger is pretty much irrelevant.

 

Brady has worn a brace every game since Pollard took out his knee way back.

 

While I admire his toughness, he was on one leg after that hit, zero mobility, wouldn't step into his throws and was a sitting duck behind our already putrid OL.

 

Maybe a sleeve, but not a brace as far as I know. He wore one for a little bit after his ACL recon, but he stopped wearing it. It doesn't do anything for ACL injuries except act as a reminder to play conservative.

 

If Mariota manages to practice this week, he's playing.
