    When Mariota was being compared to Marino and every HoF QB ever to play after the first game, I said pump the brakes because teams would figure out his strengths and he'd come back to earth.

    He's now playing like a typical rookie QB. Whiz is putting too much of the offense on him because there isn't anything else. Mariota doesn't have the supporting cast so expect the ups and downs to continue.

    Just as calling him the next great thing was premature, so is this bashing. Mariota needs experience. For that to happen, he needs much better protection than he's seen the last two weeks. He's not getting time to work through his progressions.

    Whiz has to find a way to take some of the pressure off him by getting more production from the run game or Mariota will end up hurt most of the season and not getting the experience he needs to improve.

    Would cooper be on the field if we had drafted him? Pretty obvious DGB needs to be on the field but he loses snaps to harry douglas

    That's funny, that INT he threw going to Wright down the sideline was a good play from him. It was a bad play by Justin Hunter who both ran the wrong route and didn't drive his defender far enough up the field. If Hunter runs the right route that's a completion to almost fg range and everyone talking about what a great throw it was under pressure. Instead, it's somehow Mariota's fault Hunter - who's been here too long to be making a mistake like that - ran the wrong route and his guy intercepted it.

    Also, didn't Mariota lead us back against the Colts but wasn't given the ball for the 2 pt conversion that failed? Seemed pretty clutch to me.

    You need to put things into context. Is Mariota perfect? Of course not. And as TJ said, he's a rookie and is gonna make rookie mistakes but some of you don't seem to know the difference between what is Mariota's fault and what is someone else's. He's got a hard enough job and will make his share of mistakes. Don't give him other people's mistakes in order to paint a false picture of him.

    As I said after he was drafted, this OL is gonna get him hurt if they start Poutasi and don't give him help with playcalls (as in extra protection or someone to chip Poutasi's rusher). And Whiz needs to call a better game. They have showed only 1 double move that I can think of (pass Mariota underthrew to Wright) and unless you do some every week, people are gonna adjust to the quick slant/post from the read option. Defense adjusted, Whiz did not.
