I understand that Ken Whisenhunt has failed to win games in this organization. I understand that the guy has made some poor play-calls, roster decisions, and that he has said some outrageous things. You must understand that from a football standpoint, Whiz is an offensive genius, whether you believe it or not. If you think that he has failed to call effective PLAYS, you have much to study about the game of football. Go and watch all-22 film of this offense, come back here, and try to tell me that you see poor schemes. I will gladly point you in the direction of some resources to improve your understanding of offensive schema. Talk to a football analyst, paid to study these things, and ask them if KW can call plays. Ken Whisenhunt's issues with effectiveness are directly traced to his poor ability to CHANGE the offense to fit players. This is very much an issue in its own regard, but one that disappears if you give him time.

He needs a quarterback to fit his offense, he had one here. He had one in San Diego. The issues are Justin Hunter<<Malcomn Floyd, Eddie Royal, or Keenan Allen. Dexter McCluster<Danny Woodhead. Locker, Mett, rookie mariota<<<<Phillip Rivers. Atrocious line play. Sure, some of this can be traced directly back to Whisenhunt. But a half of a season is not enough time to bring a bunch of rookie and 1st year offensive players up to the level of most of the other teams in this league. Every single good coach in this league has had time to get good players that fit their system, save for the new coaches this year. The Pats, Steelers, Packers, Bengals didn't fire their head coaches for not winning. These coaches failed to win until they had veterans who fit their scheme. Ken Whisenhunt was building this team to be a future powerhouse but was forced out the door before they were able to fight. 5 games of Mariota, KW's canned because he can't win? Because his linemen fold under pressure and ignore rushing defenders, his receivers bat down easy passes, the offense falls into a slump, he gets to tell his family that he doesn't have a job anymore?

The next coach in here is going to find a bunch of oddly shaped puzzle pieces and have no idea what the final product is supposed to look like. I hope someone can make something of them, but we most likely will fall into full rebuild mode again.
Not to mention, Dick LeBeau, one of KW's closest friends who came here for him over a championship level team(Arizona), is left holding the playbook. No way he wants to stick around here. Another friend, Mularkey, is all but forced to replace him. Do you think that either one of those guys' hearts are still going to be with this team? Do you think that Mariota, Poutasi, Mett, Lewan, Cox, Cobb are happy about this? Most of the players seem to really like Ken Whisenhunt, except for maybe Kendall Wright. How much effort are they going to want to put into this thing? The firing of KW sends too many ripples throughout this organization for us to be winners for a long time.
This situation, more than anything, shows just how clueless the owners of this organization are. I hope that I'm wrong, but history and research tells me that I'm not. I want this team to win just as much as any of you, but I've got this sinking feeling that this move isn't going to make that happen any sooner.

Yeah I can see this happening...the fact that Webster was in the crowd and not on the podium today told me all I wanted to know about his future. Probably should put that house on the market now and start updating his resume IMO...

I watch the all-22, his schemes suck!

Whisenhunt needs a Pro Bowl roster to work, it's flawed from the start, no team is equipped with what his system calls for..

But... 3 Teams have been quite efficient using his system. Two of them went to Super Bowls, one of them won. You can tell me that Matt Leinart says whatever, but Whis has been successful everywhere he has been but here.
