One of those other 31 geniuses will be hiring Whiz come February when one of their OCs is picked up as a head coach. I guess he will just ruin their franchise by himself as well.

The problem with criticizing the JJ Watt stuff is that you or I don't know how protections are called in this system. It is my understanding, from hearing the coaches talk about it, that it is up to the center and QB to make protection calls in tandem. The center is supposed to help queue in the QB about protections, and Schwenke was well known for his ability to call the offensive protections by himself. We had a center just off the street in vs. the texans and a backup qb in the game who hasn't had as much work with the regular linemen either. Thats a lot of reason for error. There were certainly plays in the Texans game where Watt WAS double teamed, or where Stevens helped block Watt in addition to the RT. There were also some plays where multiple people were in position to block Watt but either failed to execute or just absolutely didn't see him. It's just that the ones that don't work are the plays that we remember. I don't think there is a single OT in the league that can block Watt 1 on 1 for 60 downs, whiz should have done more to mitigate that. I agree that whiz should have gone to a 6 lineman set in that game. Especially with how poorly the texans d has been defending the run this season. Another poor decision by him, another reason why he doesn't need to be solely in charge of personnel packages.

But that doesn't change the fact that firing him right now has only negative repercussions on the team, in my opinion. Other than that they might get an extra win. Thats nice, sure, but it doesn't get our team turned around any faster since almost our whole coaching staff is here FOR whiz. Also, do you think that LeBeau would have taken the job if he thought Whiz was a poor play caller?

My big problem with Whiz, was him not using players talent to their best. He would rather put his system in and expect the players per-fect it. Example, look at Wright. In his 2nd year, Muncheck let him freestyle, Or "street ball it" as they called it, his routes and caught 90+ balls with 1000 yards. That's only his 2nd year. Now in the last 2 years, he's regressed. Cause he forgot how to play? No. Cause defenses game plan for him more? Some effect. But changing the way he plays best? Most definitely.

Having the right players, whiz can run a fantastic offense. But his problem was not adjusting it to fit players who wasn't a fit for his (Wright)

I mean you could blame Wright for not being a to adapt to it, by why change the way a guy plays when it works great, just to put in "your system"

Always play your players to their strengths. Not always how you want them to play that works.

Right on target. The word coach isn't just a noun, it implies an action as well. You can scheme until the cows come home, but it's a coaches' responsibility to make sure that those plays can be executed on game day. As the head coach it's his job to communicate with and through his assistants and effectively LEAD and inspire the team.
UnknownHinson, from a pure football standpoint you could be right, but the last time I looked great schemes have to be executed by human beings, and if your head coach is ineffective in that department then he has no business as a head coach. In Whisenhunt's case he just made a truckload of money for losing all but one home game in a 2 year span. Defend his scheme all you want, but the results were awful. You have to be able to coach to be a head coach. He has had great success as a coordinator, and perhaps that is what he needs to be doing. As for his Super Bowl appearance with Arizona, well, we had a coach here that did the same, as well as producing numerous 13-3 teams who was shown the door with a much better winning percentage than Whiz. It really is about results in the final analysis.

Had time to mull everything over...While I still have multiple questions about ownership and this front office, this firing is a good thing.

Hate the idea of changing coaches after 1.5 years (especially when you let him change your scheme to a 3-4) but man was Wiz ever stubborn.. Frustrating product to watch.

I'll be watching everything even more closer this Sunday, but the OL will be #1. Want to see if Mularkey can have an immediate impact there.

Giants just had a historic day vs the Saints defense. Want to see us have some success. We should score 23+

I'm a lil surprised Webster survived this. I hold him more responsible for where the team is at than Ken. Let's face it, the roster isn't very good. It's quite frankly and I don't feeling they are any closer to really competing than they were last year. It shouldn't be the case after the draft. And to me, how the draft was executed and the thoughts that went into it ' going all offense to surround the rookie quarterback ' was dumb. If you're looking to help you're rookie quarterback with offensive Arsenal, surround him with proven vets that have some skill. The players Webster were unpolished, unproven and weren't going to begin to help this quarterback. They should have drafted Mariota and and then looking for speed on defense and or focusing on the offensive line. They then could have used took their cap to surround Marcus with vets.

Not saying Ken is perfect but I've made this comment a multiple times. You're only as good as your talent and his talent Im sorry sucked.

I thought it was funny Webster was sitting in the back of the room for the press conference. I think the next conference from Steve will be about him.
