Chances of Tennessee Winning the AFC South

I completely agree. What good does it do this team/franchise to make the playoffs with a losing record only to get blitzed in the first round and fall at least 10 spots in the draft order? It's not like winning the AFC South with a losing record is some badge of honor. It's the worst division in the NFL in years.

You build through the draft and the impact players are at the top. If we want to rebuild the team to be a perennial contender, not just falling bass ackwards into the playoffs with a losing record, you have to be able to get players that can come in and make an immediate impact.

I was looking at the draft order from this past draft and 6-10 or 7-9 picks from around 8-12. If we get into the playoffs we theoretically could drop from 8 all the way to at least 21.

 

This division is so bad that they can easily win it. The better question is will they, and there is no indication that the team has the talent to do that. They have to win a game first, and then another, and so on. The fact that they could win it should be a motivating factor for the players, but only time will tell. As a fan I just want to see them protect Mariota so we have a chance to win a game. For three years now QB injuries have been the biggest reason this team has underperformed. Until this offensive line can keep a QB upright and healthy for more than three games in a row I'd say playoff questions are premature. Think about it- poor O line play just got our head coach fired mid season in a non-biweek. Pretty crazy stuff. Look for Webster to get fired before the end of the season if this trend continues (Remember I called it last week on the "When Should Whiz get Fired" thread).

 

Playoffs is playoffs, once you're in, anything can happen. Last year a 6 seed won a game (Baltimore). The year before both of the 6 seeds won a game (San Diego and New Orleans). The year before a 4th seed won the Superbowl. If we won the division that could be us!

 

Could we win a game first please?

I don't think going to the playoffs would be bad for this team. Yes we would be drafting way back in the draft. But, it would encourage fas to come here, so we can still get good players to come here. Also just think about all the teams that draft at 21+ every single year and continue to be good. I would like to get a big time player via draft, but it'd be just as nice getting 4 big time players through free agency.

 

Fear that people will have illusions of grander.

You mentioned if we make the playoffs that "the coaching staff worked" That is exactly my point. It doesn't necessarily mean that. I could mean our division is horrible and we just got lucky. Does that mean we should keep the coaching staff? Still consider firing Webb?

My fear is that if we get into the playoffs, the heat on the FO and co dissipates and it absolutely wouldn't deserve to.

What an idiot! The objective is to win games not get higher draft picks. We fired our f*cking coach because he did not win games. So you thought Whiz was doing a great job then since he was securing us a great pick every year?

The draft order means nothing you dolt! The Jags , Raiders and Browns have been drafting high for a decade and they still suck every year but according to you that's good since that is the ultimate goal to draft high!
