The drafts have been awful. Free agents have been ok, at best.

I agree, but I think many people on here mean WHEN they are taking players and at what positions. For instance, trading up for TT or Justin Hunter.....or taking a Guard to play RT and a FB in the 4th....or a Guard in the top 10.

Underwood said he studied Webster's drafts and they are "about average". That shouldn't be the standard though.

What players have we developed late in the draft? Williamson is the only one I can think of.

Better yet what players have we developed from the top of our drafts. That's what's more concerning to me. We whiff constantly on rounds 1-3 and that's what makes the drafts awful.

Well said. We definitely do not develop players well. They also make simply bad choices. I seriously wonder sometimes why they make the picks that they do. It's mind boggling.

So, are they ignoring the scouts, or do we also have a scouting deficiency? Either way, we are not consistent at all.

I don't think you can take Underwood's statement that Webster's drafts have been average as an endorsement. At mid-season, you want to rock the boat as little as possible in order to gain some stability until you are ready to pull the trigger with a solution.

I wonder how much of an influence Munch had on the Warmack pick ... I think it was probably a lot.

Munch probably went up to Webster and said "This guy is a sure thing, and I can coach him up to be great" ... Of course Webster is going to trust his HoF OL HC when it comes to evaluating OL. Too bad Munch was wrong. Warmack is barely average.

I didn't hate the pick then honestly, because we needed to get CJ rolling....and he was pinned as a once in an every 10 year player....That said, he gets destroyed day in and day out. and thrown around for a big dude. The fact he is so overweight and sloppy at times is bothersome too. At least he can hold his own at times. I think Sankey is bound to be an even bigger bust, which is sad.

2012: Wright, Zach Brown, Mike Martin, Coty Sensabaugh.
    3 starters and DL depth

2013: Warmack, Hunter, Blidi, Schwenke, Stafford.
3 starters and secondary depth, Schwenke has been solid, but unfortunate injuries

2014: Lewan, Sankey, Jones, Huff, Williamson, Mettenberger.
4 starters before Sankey got Whiz'd

    2015: MM, DGB,Poutasi, Blackson

That doesn't include undrafted free agents. Ruston has been able to put players in the coaches basket, it's up to them to utilize and develop those players. Yes, there have been some whiffs, but that goes with every team.

Coaching has a huge part to do with the development of drafted players.

My problem is he seems to be drafting a lot of these guys at least 1/2 a round too early. We just don't get good value for our picks. Sure they play for us but we could've done better at a lot of those picks, especially the Hunter pick where we jumped up to pick him and plenty of similar WR fell to our original spot.

non-objective rating of Webster FA pickups:

+ is good (1 pt) ... helped the team out in significant way
    - is bad (-1 pt) ... hurt the team
0 is neutral (0 points) ... neither helped significantly nor hurt/depth signing
(0/+ and 0/- are borderline, and given half-points)

(obviously rankings are open to interpretation)
