Mariota's got a unique style of qB'ing , it seems he's always flicking the ball to the right spots quickly. As far as the deep ball, it seems his feet are never in position to really sling it using his whole body . I don't think he can't do it it just seems that it's all arm due to the way he moves and how his feet are planted. It seems he also tries to aim and finesse too much, sometimes he should just let it rip. I think we'll start to see it soon as long as the protection is there.

Firstly let me say that I was in the "trade the pick" camp before the draft. However, I now am FULLY convinced we have our QB. What I like-extremely quick release, wouldn't be surprised if it not among the fastest. Doesn't tuck it and run when his first read is not open, he will only get better and better at reading D's. The draft "guru's" said the wouldn't fit into an NFL system, that he would take years to play the position in a NFL type O vs the spread type....he has quickly adapted his game...amazingly fast IMO. He will only get better. What I don't like-holds onto the ball too long sometimes, has to this point fumbled too much when under pressure (I will give him a pass for now on this as most any QB doesn't like to get hit), on longer routes for whatever reason are not near as accurate....don't know why but I suspect it is that he simply is used to receivers having more separation in college than he is seeing with the Titan receivers. But as someone else noted he doesn't seem to get his whole body into long throws...maybe that will change when he trusts his protection more and learns to shift within the pocket like Brady/Manning do.

In his three years at Oregon, Mariota threw the ball 1,167 times and amassed a grand total of 10 interceptions. A few of those were Hail Mary moments at the end of a game. A few more were fluke interceptions where the receiver simply choked and let the ball bounce off the numbers of his jersey. I watched every single game the kid played in college, and I can assure you that your analysis above is inaccurate. Yes, I'm sure he's worked on his mechanics, but they were hardly Tim Tebow-esque in nature.

None of your newfound Oregon fans are claiming that Marcus walks on water, but given the stats noted above: I think "Mr. Pick City" is a bit absurd.

Nothing mysterious or silent about my post. BTW.

Maybe I should have clarified.. Many of his passes in college looked like they would have been picked in the NFL if he didnt clean up his mechanics.

The Pac-12 isnt really known for it's shut down secondaries.

The reference to "mysterious" and "silent" that was clearly lost on you was made in the context of what would happen to all the new Oregon homer accounts on goTitans, such as your own, if Mariota came in and stunk up the place. You guys would be nowhere to be found.. Just like you havent been here until we drafted your QB.

The real Titan fans around here have been bravely wearing their two tone blue despite suffering abysmal seasons in recent years.

You could say the same about any college QB....all of them struggle with NFL coverage and speed the first couple of season. Manning had what 26-28 picks his first year?

True statement. Some adjust and eventually are able to hack it and some dont.

    1. MM has never thrown a lot of picks and he never will as long as he has reasonable protection....this means he won't throw into super tight coverage where nothing is there...now if there is a tight window of a few feet he will throw it there and do it accurately as he has shows dozens of times already.

    2. Does he have the strongest arm?...no...but it isn't weak ...he is throwing the ball abit softer than he was last year prob due to the tweaked ankle and MCL but mostly because the pocket has been collapsing around him(not last game obviously) and he hasn't stepped into his throws...He has the ability to throw harder trust me on this one.

But this is something never bought up, not only does MM throw quick and accurately, he throws a ball thats very catchable...its not like Mett throwing a 100mph rocket from 10 yards away where the receivers have a tough time catching it...MM balls arrive with medium pace and with tight spirals...much easier to catch those balls.

    3. MM has never thrown a great deep ball because he doesn't get enough air underneath the throws...he needs to continue to work on this...I am sure he can get it out there 50-60 yards if he has to.

Bottom line, 90% about QB'ing is about the metal aspect of the game...are you cool under pressure and can lead last min drives for the win(yes), are you accurate(yes), do you get the ball out quickly so defenders cant break on the ball(yes), is he a good guy on and off the field(yes), can he run when needed(yes), is he a hard worker and professional(yes).

These qualities are much more important than arm strength yet many still focus on this.
