And this is exactly why I don't want Chip Kelly. Don't pick a coach with a system that can only succeed with certain types of players. Pick a coach who can adapt to the types of players he has at hand.

Coach Kelly sucks. His coaching last game was embarrassing. His up tempo Offense doesn't work in the NFL. Living up here in the Philly area, you see a lot of this guy. I want NO parts of him. He single handedly destroyed the Birds and became power hungry.

It's a gimmick offense. Like most, once defenses get enough film, they find the flaws and exploit them.

The old excuse of not having the right players holds true for most any offensive system. Whiz would still be coach here if he had better talent at key positions.

    Better players execute better.

    :obvious:

I want no part of Kelly even as OC.

Well said TJ. His Offense is predictable (rarely audibles and different looks) and wears his own Defense out. NFL Defenses are faster, smarter, and ready for this crap with film. The fact he had a rookie playing press/man on Calvin Johnson, and 3 TD's later (almost a 4th) didn't make changes, is telling. He will be back in College in no time.

I say this with the upmost respect, but I think you might be a bit short sighted in your perspective. Every coach has a system they want to run with no exception. Yes every system is tweaked some to fit the personnel, but its still at its base the same system the coach wants to run. Why does Andy Reid run the West Coast Offense, why does Josh McDaniels the run spread, why does Dick/Horton or Romeo Crennel always run the 3-4? Why does Dann Quinn and Monte Kiffin always run a 4-3 Over/Under?

Regardless of the coach, they are only highly effective when they have the right personnel to fit their system. Anything else you can't really judge the system or coach until the right personnel is running it.

Earlier this offseason Dick did an interview where he was asked about the evolution of the 3-4 defense and he made a very concise distinction between one-gap vs two-gap 3-4 defensive schemes. Long story short he said that no one runs a two-gapping 3-4 front because they would get destroyed in today's game and everyone runs one gap instead. However, there are still a few teams out here who does two gap. So for the sake of this discussion lets say that a team hired a DC who wants to run a one-gap 3-4 front but the talent on his team is conditioned and built around two-gapping. Based off of your logic he should just adapt his scheme to his players which then would mean his defense would more than likely get destroyed. However, to your other point, if he runs an ineffective one-gap 3-4 front with personnel who doesn't fit then he must be an inferior coach if his defense doesn't perform well. Whereas, the reality is you really can't judge the coach until they run their system with the personnel they really believe fit their system.

My point in all of this is nothing is so black and white given the complexity of the NFL. However, coaches should be allotted time to get the players to effectively run their system. No they don't get an infinite amount of time, but some time is warranted. Other than that you are limited in your ability to accurately evaluate the system or the Coach.

Pete Carroll before his stint in Seattle was a very average coach. He was something like 33-31 between the Jets and NE. Everyone thought it was a questionable hire by the Hawks to give a coach who was so average a third shot at a HC job. Now he's generally regarded as one of the top HCs in the NFL? What's changed? Yes he could have gotten better as a HC, but in my opinion I think the biggest change is having those guys in Seattle being a perfect fit for the system he wanted to run. Especially on defense with that Man-to-Man 4/3 Over Under scheme.

So by what you are saying we should of given Whiz more time?? It's obvious we did not have the oline, RBs, or WRs needed to run his system. How can you say give Kelly more time, but get rid of Whiz? Kelly is the same as Whiz; stuck on his system. The ego of these 2 coaches is exactly the same. They will stand by the system; not willing to change any part of it "because it has worked".

I wanted Whiz gone. He ran this team in the ground. Wright is on record as saying there is a totally different atmosphere at BSP. You can see it on players' faces. They are happier and performing better. We have not won many more games. To be honest we need to address a lot of positions on offense and a couple on defense before a lot of winning is going to happen.

Our strength this year has been defense. Yet when we leave those big guys on the field too long (Like Kelly's system is designed to do); we will give up points. The defensive players are too big and will wear out too easily. I love the direction our defense has gone. Any new HC that would want to mess with that is nuts. The new HC will have his hands full on offense and should worry about fixing what is broken.

I also strongly believe Kelly will damage the development of MM8 as a passer. MM has been much more effective from the pocket than many would of thought. We have our QB and need to build around him. Not change his game.

Just my opinion. I hope all the Kelly support extends to Philly and they allow him to keep experimenting with their team. I do not want him in TN playing mad scientist with our team.

Why would his defense get destroyed by changing to a scheme that fits his personnel? Obviously if the players on the team were better suited for a 2 gap 3-4, they would perform much better than in a 1 gap 3-4.
As an aside, I would say that switching on D is easier, because the change doesn't affect everybody (DL the most, LB little less and DBs barely). Whereas on O a change in scheme usually effects all 11.
Again, especially in the NFL where you can't recruit exactly who you need, I don't understand why you don't adapt to what you have. Imagine if the Patriots only used Gronk as a traditional TE...

    Respect is beautiful.

I don't think these guys have anything to worry about. Even though I think Chip is a good pro coach. A great college coach with Saban/Urban five star talent. I can see their point. Who knows, Marcus may feel very similar to some us in playing for Chip. With playing for him may not round out his game as a pro.

I think you are way overthinking it

Wizinator acquired Clipboard Jeses and McCluster as 'system' guys. They both suck donk balls in his 'system' even though they were handpicked for that.

the HC must adjust his 'system' to fit his players. At the same time coaching his players on his 'system' and bringing everything together in TC.

Result HC has say 50% of his 'system' but the players should have 100% knowledge of the O even though it is not exactly what the HC desires.

Take the 9 Walmart RBs & 11 TEs the Titans retained but only 4 WRs...

    please
