Seasons 1-4 are worth watching. Stop at 4. Just pretend Dexter gets caught and is given the death penalty a few days after the the 4th season ends.

I revisited 1-4 but I'll be honest I noticed the stuff that makes the final seasons lame is also there in the the early seasons, just to a lesser extent.
If they do bring it back they need all new writers and show runners.
There is so much good stuff available right now I don't see the need for more Dexter.

There were definitely conveniences in the first four seasons, but there was a lot less cheese. "Tick-tock. That's the sound of your life running out." GTFO with that **** writing.

What kind of things are you referring to?

Definitely agree with that. I have a hard enough time keeping up with everything I want to watch as it is. If they do bring this back I hope to god they have a very solid idea with a clear direction and aren't just going to tread the same old ground.

The finale was just such a hilarious clusterf*** I could kind of understand them wanting to wrap it up in a better way. But, like you, I don't trust the previous staff to do anything other than eff it up worse.

Dexter was a perfect example of a show going on way too long just because they kept getting the ratings (which as I've said before, can't really blame them). That whole premise just doesn't really lend itself to a super long run, like it had. There's only so much you can do with that character/story without spiraling into complete absurdity. Which if we're being honest it was a pretty absurd premise from the get-go. They were pretty clearly tapped after Trinity, yet it went on another 4 seasons.

Mostly beyond-annoying characters like Deb and any number of people who worked in the Dept. - and the unending line of conveniences and absurd scenarios used in the story telling.

To continue Dexter, unless they simply went off-the-board absurd he would have to be on the downlow and would no longer be able to be a crime scene guy.
So then what you have is just a serial killer who relocated.
They would really need to make some bold changes to the entire deal. And definitely ditch pretty much all the writers, show runners and previous cast.

My wife was interested in it because she, like I, liked the premise; however she got annoyed because there wasn't one single female character she liked...despised every one of them. That was a quick lesson in demographics.
