In theory I like Saban. But there is no guarantee he wont quit and run back to college as soon as things get too hard. Much like he did last time.

Give me Coughlin he's actually won in the NFL and the players would respect him or GTFO.

I'm not as much of a fan of a possibly Sean Payton hire actually. He's a good coach, but I'm not really excited about that possibility at all...I personally think he is actually trending downward. Saw an article about that...

The Saints head coach is a veteran of many hiring cycles and he's at an interesting point in his career. At the moment, he is an "A" candidate, arguably the best Day 1 head coach a team can get right now and, as Rapoport noted, he can be had for a second-round pick. The Saints trading Payton would represent the best of all worlds. They would get compensation for a coach leaving, they could inject new life into their franchise for the first time in a decade and Payton, who has been in the same place for a decade, will get the chance to spread his wings and try his offense with a new quarterback. He can also do so before sinking even further with the Saints, which might ultimately damage his desirability on the open market.

I personally would pass on a coach trending downward. I think this could quickly be a Fisher situation all over. We laughed at the Rams for hiring him, and he hasn't put a winning season together yet I believe. Hiring Payton I think would set us back close to what Fisher may have done with the Rams.

    Just an opinion...

The report is that Payton wants to coach the 49ers anyway. Fisher isn't a great coach, but it's difficult to win in the NFL without a good Qb. He hasn't had a starting Qb finish a season yet since taking the Rams job.

You can't really ask for a better situation than the titans have right now. It's not like any of these candidates would expect an open gig to be with a winning franchise right now, otherwise that position wouldn't be open. For Tennessee it just comes down to whether or not our top candidates are willing to leave their respected franchises.

Nashville isn't as attractive as people would lead you to believe.

Most players typically want to play for large market teams. Nashville is more of an afterthought than a destination.

I'd be all over Payton if it wouldn't cost a 2nd round pick but at that price I say pass. It's nice to have a good pool of available coaches to choose from. I wish like hell we'd open up the checkbook for Saban, make him an offer he can't refuse.

    Please no Saban.

How hard is it to win championships when you constantly have the best talent at every position year in and year out?

How many Bama players get drafted really high and then dissapoint in the NFL? And we always criticize them for the fact they were on a superior team, it hides their flaws. Same goes for Saban.

He is a great recruiter and that makes his coaching a lot easier to have superior talent at every position ... perfect for college. But he won't have that luxury in the NFL

And like others have mentioned, at the 1st sign of trouble, how confident are you that he won't run back to college?
