He actually gave a perspective as a fan of the Titans, and you're correct...he hit the nail on the head.

It's really sad to know the fanbase has a clearer perspective about the hire than the entire front office of the organization....and they have more info and resources at their disposal. Why, one might ask? Cause they are too predisposed to hiring from within, and it clouds their reasoning.

Titans’ inclination to keep Mularkey is confounding to many | ProFootballTalk

As this article (and others) make clear, hiring Mularky communicates to the fanbase and rest of the sports world that they will soon be for sale or they frankly don't give a crap.

Here's what I have to say to any Titans player who says the team needs to keep Mularkey...

"If you loved him so much, why didn't you play harder for him?"

Personally, I don't want players loving their coach. I want players respecting their coach and playing hard for him because THAT IS WHAT IS DEMANDED FROM THEIR COACH.

I'm sure Mularkey is a great guy but there were games this season the team went through the paces and played with zero intensity. That, IMO, is inexcusable.

+1. Plus, you have to watch what you say, as a player or staff member. If you go slamming your current HC, what does that say about you, as a player? You are being unprofessional while biting the hand that feeds you. Other teams considering will view you as having a bad attitude and a possible locker room cancer.

That's why I didn't put much stock into the player's criticism of Kelly. They know some coaches are strict and others are what is called "player's coaches." It's their JOB to play hard regardless of which one they have to play for. Couglin was a strict HC, but he has a few Superbowls on his resume. Belichick isn't a player's coach, either.

Winning and Losing, both have their own momentum. Once you start winning, you have confidence and play harder. Once you start losing a few in a row, it's easy to feel sorry for yourself and pack it up, mentally. That's where the Titans have been the past few seasons.

David Boclair was on 104.5 this morning reporting that all indications from the organization is that they will likely keep Mularkey and any other coaches out there are a long shot at this point.
Fan base will go ballistic if this is the case.

Ownership doesn't care about winning. In 2014 The teams each received 226.4 million in revenue. The Titans had a total of 314 million in revenue for 2015 according to Forbes. The Adams are making a lot money with little investment and it looks like that trend will continue.

Thats been the status quo for a long time but if its ever going to change now is the time.. My fingers are crossed.

The thing thats kept me from assuming it'll be Mularkey is Underwood said the next HC will have to have been a proven winner. Mularkey has a .316 win % as a HC, he does not qualify for the job based off Underwoods comments.

I know he talked Mularkey up a bit in the press conference, but he also made it clear he wants a guy with a proven track record.. And he acknowledged wins are the only gauge people care about.

Yeah, I can see a major fan revolt if they do. That just sends a sour message to the fanbase...that complacency with losing and apathy is the order of business for the Titans organization. I can see players not wasting any of their free time in the offseason getting in football shape or working out...just doing like the organization. The bare minimum and collecting a paycheck.
