Whiz was the hottest HC name when he was hired. It was done quickly and the fans mostly loved it.

I hope the Titans front office has learned from their mistakes.

Exactly. It's crazy how short some fans' memories are.

Still to this day don't know why fans liked the move.

I called he would field the worst team in franchise history.

You completely missed the point! I didn't suggest we go out and hire the first big name, but rather they needed to speed up this process IN ORDER to look at all their options. Cases in point, several teams have already interviewed all the current options and been able to make a coaching hire BEFORE we have even interviewed a SINGLE candidate!!! That's ridiculously slow and uneccesary!!! It also shows the front office doesn't understand the timeline.

Last year, Gase was a candidate and interviewed several places and waited to go everywhere. While waiting to do some of his last interviews (apparently), some of the jobs he wanted were filled. So this year, the first team he liked and offered him a job...he took. We didn't even contact him for an interview.

Hue Jackson was in a similar position. He had several interviews and more scheduled but when Haslem skipped the owners meeting to interview him a 2nd time and tell him you're our guy (and he liked the job), he cancelled the rest of his interviews and took the job. We didn't even get an interview scheduled!

McAdoo is with the Giants. No interview for the Titans.

Chip Kelly is now with the Niners. No interview for the Titans.

So I agree with your idea that we want to look at our options...but they are moving so slowly, we haven't even got to LOOK at those options before they have made several interviews with other teams and we haven't even called. You don't think Chip wanted to at least interview here with Mariota being HIS GUY and PERFECT for his offense?

It seems they are slow playing this deliberately to let the big names get hired so 'they can't find a better guy' than Mularkey so they'll just keep him. If this is the case and our only other interviews are Marrone (who quit on his team looking for more money), or Austin who is a defensive coach and runs a 4-3 (not exactly what we are looking for but satisfies the 'rooney rule.'), i will be dismayed - to say the least!!!

My ONLY hope is Robinson wants McDaniels or Bevell as HC so there was no rush to interview a score of candidates if the short list is mostly on teams still playing. We can hope...

The problem with getting it 'right' is you are competing for a handful of people with 5-7 teams. Last person to figure it out gets the last guy left.

Half the HC vacancies are filled and we haven't interviewed a single HC candidate yet. And I really don't want to listen to all the clamour that Mularkey is the front runner....

So unless they are looking at McDaniels, Bevell, or Shula, we may end up with Mularkey because who will be left by the time they actually get interviews scheduled. Marrone or Austin? Doesn't look like we've done a good job at really looking at all of our options while being called one of the top open jobs.

Hoping Robinson isn't gonna make 'his' first move be re-hiring Mularkey as our HC.

Sorry I don't buy it. Coaches like Hue Jackson and Adam Gase don't take the first job offered to them because they're afraid of missing out. Gase clearly wanted to go to Miami because of the talent they have on offense. Hue Jackson supposedly got a good deal of roster control in Cleveland that he wouldn't have gotten elsewhere and Chip Kelly, well frankly I don't care why he chose San Francisco, maybe because it's close to Oregon...

Not true at all. Somehow, the Titans had over 100 on their early list. ;)

We have the Giants and Bucs promoting from within. Gase and Jackson are two good candidates gone but they may not have been the right fit for the Titans regardless.

Now that we have the GM in place, I think this thing moves quicker but I don't want to pass up any of the better candidates still in the hunt.

I agree, I just hope no one in the FO sees either of the two current outside candidates as the top group out of 100+. The list of people we actually talk to needs to be more expansive, if for no other reason to get multiple viewpoints to compare against Mularkey's.
