If my boss told me "I'm going to pretend to listen to you"

I would immediately start the search for a new job.

Anyone that is above collaboration better be the best damn person around at what they do.

I don't think this guy is even average at anything he's going to do here.

What you want is Mariota to transcend coaching. You want him to become an on field coach for the offense, and you want the offensive coordinator to be nearly irrelevant. Obviously "irrelevant" might be too strong a word, but a "franchise QB" needs to become the coach on the field. Brady, Manning, Luck, those guys dictate quite a bit, you want Mariota to get there.

You want Mariota to be coached, and empowered, not be submissive and a yes man.

Mariota's personality is that of a pleaser, and non confrontational, quiet. Hes going to do what Mularky asks, and I have no doubt Mariota had a strong opinion to keep Mularky which is why, I believe Mularky was retained.

A QB is not like a regular job. If I was in the "quarterback position" of my job, I would definitely expect to be able to dictate certain things. I believe this is what separates the difference between what people call a "game manager" or a Franchise QB. Game manager goes out and does what the coaches ask, and tries to not lose the game for the team. A Franchise QB goes out and does what he needs to do to win the game. This is also why coaches that have a franchise QB win a lot more games, because in a lot of situations, its the QB play, not the coaching that ends up winning these games.

If Mularky makes Mariota be a game manager, then I think he will regress, from the standpoint that he will never be able to make that leap. I think he will always be a good QB, he will have the talent, but if he is in a flawed system, he is going to always have flaws.

Mularky needs to empower him, and make him the centerpiece of the offense, and make the offense Marcus' offense. He appears to have the intelligence for that, and a photographic memory and all that. That needs to be what Mularky is about.

Oh yeah, in most cases you have to earn the "everything is my way" kind of thing. If you have proven yourself to be really good at what you do, people MIGHT be willing to follow along. If you are some mediocre ancient who has had a lifetime to excel in his field and still has not, you laugh in his face. HAH

    Just for a reality check:

I didn't Mariota playing any better under Mularkey. In fact, he played worse. Let's hope MM8 has the skills to transcend Mularkey's historically lame offense and 10 years out of the saddle, unproven geriatric OC.
