We are bad because of lack of talent... it really is that simple.

We are a team that is worst in the NFL at nearly every position across the board.

Now the reason for lack of talent is a little more complex.

It could be due to bad management or bad development (or both )

    1. Lack of talent.
    2. Lack of leadership.
    3. Lack of experience.
    4. Lack of identity.
    5. Lack of luck.

    Many of these things overlap.

Lack of talent is ultimately on the GM. Hopefully, that turns around soon but, I suspect, it'll take a total overhaul of the scouting department. There are not enough playmakers on the roster.

I don't think the Titans have had leadership in the locker room for some time. The more I learn about successful teams, the more it seems having a core group of guys like the Titans had in '99, '00, etc. is essential. They set the standard. They hold players accountable. They set the tone.

Lack of experience obviously improves in time for most. However, we're not necessarily seeing improved players (Hunter). That points to #1, IMO.

Lack of identity is related to #2 and the coaching staff. The Titans don't know who they are and I'm not confident Mularkey will be able to establish it.

Lack of luck points to stuff like injuries. We've had too many the last two seasons. I think it takes a lot of luck for a team to make it to the Super Bowl in addition to all the other things on the list.

Its hard to compete when your Center is in your QB's lap most days. We dont have a capable Center on this team right now...

Hopefully with the new GM we can focus on getting good football players Instead of just "athlete's", ex. Justin Hunter and Zaviar Gooden.

IMO they all feed back into #1.

    2. Leadership is important, but it won't overcome a talentless team ... meaning if your players suck, the team will suck whether there is leadership or not.

And I don't believe that we have zero leadership in the locker room ... this team played hard for the majority of the season, they just couldn't get it done. .. I don't think the team quit until playoffs were out of reach and MM was out (obvious to the players we were giving up)

    3. Lack of experience feeds right back into lack of talent. We were so inept at drafting and developing talent that we were cutting/benching guys that were drafted a few years ago in favor of rookies or young players.

RB is a prime example of this. We would not have been lacking exp. at that position if drafted a talented player instead of sankey. We would've been playing a vet there.

However since we did so poorly at bringing in talent, we were forced to play a rookie and 1st year guy at the position instead.

    5. I'll go straight to 5 because it's tied to #3... it's not a matter of "luck". All teams have injuries. It's a matter of some teams having more talented depth. Again, we are so poor and bringing in talent, that are depth is just trash.

If we were drafting better and developing better talent, then injuries would not be as major of an issue.

    4. I feel this one is a little over rated. Teams' identity change year in and year out with roster turnover, injuries, ect. and most teams haven't established an identity until halfway through the season when they find out what they are good at and having success with (ie, the strength of the team determines the identity) ... we have no strength bc we have no talent, and therefore no identify bc we are just trying to establish anything

Great points by all. This team has tended to draft athletic combine ability over being a good football player. We have made numerous horrible picks based on what a player looks like in shorts not pads.

Still angers me we had numerous chances to address the center issue last year in free agency and we chose to do nothing but save under the cap for the owners.

We will see how a really young team response to a really old coaching staff
