Thanks for your assessment, Ruston. After selecting a LT at #1 should we follow this up with a project WR at #33?

The OL has been addressed through both FA and the draft. It's been the neediest position group on the team for years, and that's why we've spent so many 1st Rd picks there. Same thing goes with WR's.

Last year, the OL crop was horrific in FA. It's usually like picking from the bargain/clearance bin at a store. The stuff that's there...is there for a reason. Either the players are too expensive for the production you get, they are injured/getting old or both. That's typically how it works. Not saying there aren't good players to be had in FA, but it's often slim pickens for teams like ours.

No, it is because we had a GM who understood less about putting together a competitive roster than the average fan. Creating a roster is not just about paying a lot of high prized free agents or drafting players.

Exactly...Get a sure Center for once to anchor the line....a FA tackle, and we are back in business....Then you grab Bosa, Spence, or Ramsey and sure up that Defense. Instantly more competitive.

You usually have some cogent points but this is way over the top!

No upper tier free agents will come play here? Botoom end teams sign high priced free agents often. It is true that some players will take less to play for a winner and some vets who have had their big contract but not a taste of the playoffs or SB would rather go to a winning team. But their aren't 32 teams offering every free agent top dollar or even an avg-sized contract. Bidding wars are typically between less than a handful of teams and for a player like Josh Norma - for example, keeping him puts them very tight against the cap and he's a bit older than a Patrick Peterson when he got his big contract. Or you look at a player like Cordy Glenn (LT) who is most likely gonna hit free agency because the Bills are already tight against the cap. Or a Russell Okung who already has a ring and a chunk of money...but do you think a lot of winning teams can pay top dollar for a franchise LT? If he wants an extra 10+mil, he'd consider going to a team like the Titans. if he wants to win, maybe he doesn't. But to suggest NO top free agent would come here is silly and wrong. We won't have our pick of every free agent, but their will be a lot more choice meat than just table scraps. Our problem has been that Webster's been to cheap or not known who to go after.

And remember, some of these players have already played on unsuccessful teams...like Mitchell Schwartz. And keep in mind, Alex Mack is one of the highest profile OC's in the league and said winning is VERY important to him. So important, he signed an offer sheet with the lowly Jags (though Cleveland matched). So winning can be important, but sometimes that extra coin does change minds!!!

Now that it's not inconceiveable to actually sign a RT (or LT and move Lewan) in FA, we certainly don't have to draft Tunsil at #1. But even if we don't sign a RT or LT in free agency, we still don't have to take a OT in round 1. A quality OT will be there at the top of round 2...and probably thru to the mid part of round 2 or later.

Do you think there are 4 QB's rated in the top 10? Me either. I don't have Connor Cook or Lynch as First round picks but even if you follow mocks that have those players being taken in the first, Lynch is frequently taken in the mid-late first and Cook tends to pop in towards the end of round 1. Considering 3 teams in the top 5 need a qb to start now or have vets who have maybe 2-3 years left and getting a future replacement now would go a long way. Just look at what Dallas had to endure from when Aikman retired to Romo. Pretty ugly!!!

And why spend the #1 overall pick on a player we have a good shot at getting in free agency so we can spend that draft pick on an impact player at a position we can't get in FA!

The Raiders have a TON of cap space. I think it was a mind-blowing number...like $72mill!
2016 NFL team salary caps Photos

And there are a bunch of good teams that have as much if not more cap space than we do ($24mill). Some have double that. So, there are going to be a lot of teams with more cash to spend and offer a better situation than here. Historically, the team has been known to be the Tennessee Tightwads in FA. Plus, it isn't just the sheer $$$. FA's know this is a sinking ship with this hire.

Whatever we might bid, somebody else will match and offer a better situation. I was thinking surely the team would hire Hugh Jackson or McDaniel, but when they stuck with Mularkey, that sickening feeling we fans get is equal to the stench FA's smell when this team is brought up. I guarantee you that the upper tier athletes are telling their agents to do what they can to steer them away from Tennessee and probably Cleveland.
