There will be no changes anytime soon. I think this was a hypothetical for the future.

as a taxpayer I dont want to buy Vanderbilt or the Titans anything.

as a pratical matter I agree with @RollTide except for the years of going to Titan games at Vandy. It was bad enough the one year I would hate to do that again for multiple years

regardless nothing to fret over for a decade

AT&T stadium was funded 2/3 by the team and 1/3 by state and local funds. Those funds were generated primarily from issuing bonds in which the interest and principal payments would come from taxes on tickets and parking. The ticket tax increase was 10% and the parking tax is $3 a car.

So far they are beating projections by 50%. The city of Arlington was $20M in debt and they have made back $27M in additional taxes.

If the Indy and Viking franchises can get a new stadium so can we. They were poor franchises before those stadiums were built. The vikings were the poorest so Titan Jeff's deep pockets comment doesn't hold water.

Nobody pays for these things with cash out of pocket.

What about a kickoff classic type game every September in this college football town? Bama plays USC in Arlington to start the season what if that game was here? You think that would be good for Nashville business? How about UT hosting a game like that against a quality program in another conference sort of a opening season bowl game?

The idea of 25,000 Californians coming here is scary but their money is good.

The Music city bowl would be bigger with a big time stadium. Better game, more visiting fans and more money.

Atlanta gets games like that. Why shouldn't we?

Jeff's idea to build a new stadium in the property next to Nissan stadium is not a bad one at all. That exactly what the White sox did with their ballpark in 1991. They tore down the old Commisky park and made that a parking lot and built the new ballpark across the street.

Since the biggest gripe here is the Vandy project that would be a way around it.

The fan base would be excited to see a new state of the art stadium being built as they come to the games. Hopefully the team would be worth it.

Admittedly this is a discussion for the future, BUT, putting together a plan for a new stadium is likely a 5+ year exercise just to navigate the politics, so we are really not that far from beginning of discussions for it IMO.

TJ's idea about a stadium east of Murfreesboro is interesting, but it would really take away from the charm of going to a game in Nashville IMO (the downtown area is really cool on game day weekends). I would like to see a plan like RT's (Vandy/Titans combo) or the plan to build adjacent to the current stadium.

I worked in downtown Nashville (actually in a workspace with a view of the ongoing construction) while the current stadium was being built, and that was a large part of what really drew me to my current love for Nashville (although I no longer live there). I completely agree that seeing construction of a new stadium would enhance interest.

I also think that a retractable roof would be a good idea...and not just to deal with cold weather. Those games in September can be pretty hot LOL (I will never forget that Steelers game in 2010 when I literally melted in the stadium....was nearly 100 degrees that day).

All of this said, revenue availability for this would be a huge issue IMO. I agree that PSL owners should not bear the brunt of this, and Tennessee does not have a state income tax from which to derive funds. Also, I would guess that there would not be much support at all from other parts of the state (Knoxville, Memphis specifically), so, unlike the Minnesota example (where there is a more statewide support for the team), options for funding supplies outside of the Nashville metro area would be much more challenging IMO.

I don't think there is any way a new stadium is built anywhere but downtown on the riverfront. No stadiums are built using income tax for finance and Texas has no income tax either.

I did not mention Target field which also completed the same year as the college stadium(2009) in the twin cities area. So the twin cities in a span of 7 years got a new college stadium, new $500M baseball stadium and a state of the art roofed stadium for nfl football and a future super bowl. We in middle Tennessee get what?

I was also wrong in calling the downtown Minneapolis a convertible it is not. It is a fixed roof stadium.

Looking at the income statements of nfl teams on forbes i noticed something very interesting. As revenues ramp up for a team because of new stadium, increased tickets and concessions etc most of that increase goes to the bottom line.

It's logical really. All teams have similar expenses for player salaries, coaches, scouting and front office. One you pay those most of the rest is profit.

The titans had revenues of $320M and net profit of $50m. If revenues increased by 50% to around $440M a year much of that increase would be net profit. Profits would at least double.

The cowboys have 2X the revenues of the Titans $618M but 5X the net profit at $250m.

So a new stadium would be a huge boon to the franchise owners. The value of the franchise would increase 50%, revenues about 50% and net profit up around 100%.

That's the norm around the league!

Also the top 10 franchises in value have average ticket prices of $100. The titans average prices are $67. So they would go up some in relation to other teams.

Not that funny, but they just about nailed it on Family Guy. Concessions.

Cleveland built their stadium the same year we built ours for a similar cost. They have just completed a 2 year $120M renovation.

That's not cheap just for renovation. To build a brand new stadium similar in scale to the one we have would cost $400M today.

The 30 year period between stadiums is realistic but that still needs a plan. I talked about a ten year plan which would finish in year 2026 which is 27 years later so i'm in the ball park.

I want us to have the best not just something to get by. I certainly don't want ownership temped to leave for greener pastures and I would love to have big time events here in Nashville like the super bowl.

Jeff's idea to buy out the company to get the property north of the stadium might be the most feasible. I think a riverfront outdoor concert facility would be cool in that area.
