The BIGGEST HOLE on defense...

    As of right now the biggest hole on our defense is at NT...with SLH and Al Woods both as FAs that would leave Blackson or Jones as our NT. We all know that games are won in the trenches. I think we need to upgrade this position. SLH has not been a dominant force inside since we signed him. Teams have run on us way too much. We have to be able to stuff the run and make teams one dimensional. I would have no problem if we made Damon Harrison the crown jewel of our FA signings. He has shown consistent ability to stuff the run making over 50 tackles each of the past 3 years. That is tremendous production from the NT position. The most Woods and Hill have had in a single season is 27 and 26 respectively.

    In FA if you are going to spend big money then you want to get a young guy that you can build around. Snacks Harrison is just that type of guy. He could be the Casey Hampton of our defense.

    The other young NT available is Ian Williams from the 49ers, but he is not the HUGE guy that Harrison is and he has only had 1 good yr which happened to be his contract year.

    We could go old school and grab a guy like Haloti Ngata or BJ Raji but I'd rather stay young.

    I would like to see us upgrade the spot from Woods and Hill. I don't see a ton of sure fire NT talent in the draft.

    Just think if we added Harrison and Ramsey to the defense this year.....give Lebeau Hampton and Polomalu.

    Knighton is an option that would be much cheaper, but he is older and has never shown the stats that Harrison has

    My #1 FA target is Harrison, young and dominant. Wont sign with a 3-4 team, limits his options. I would overpay as he is a building block for the future. 6m-8m per. I want him first on Wednesaday night.
    It also allows Blackson and Jones to rotate in at DE where they have both flashed ability.

    Nose tackle is a great position to need this year. Both Damon Harrison and Jaye Howard are very appealing free agents. Rare to see multiple good (arguably great) 3-4 NTs hit the market.

    Howard is more similar to Ian Williams in terms of being a smaller disruptive NT rather than a HUGE plugger. With the way that the game is changing to such a passing league maybe that would be just fine, but I have always wanted us to have that HUGE guy to plug up the middle.

    As the GM if you are looking to go BPA in the draft you have to address NT in FA. I think that with Lebeau as the DC it will allow us to attract a good one.

    NT is def an underrated need. Some solid vets out there that wouldn't break the bank. Could see SLH returning for a cheaper deal too, for depth.

    But the biggest need on defense is FS.

    The biggest hole on D is a tie between a #1 cb, good nt, good ILB to play next to Williamson, a good S to pair with Searcy, and a depth pass rusher at OLB.

    Point is, we need upgrades and adding as much talent in these areas as we can. It isn't a fix one hole and we're good! If you add a good NT but don't get depth at OLB and Orakpo blows his pec for the season, we have a huge problem. We need to add starting talent to affect our pass and run d as well as get good depth at key positions!
