Titans to acquire RB DeMarco Murray from Eagles - NFL.com

I like it, actually. I wanted us to draft Henry at #33, but this now allows us to take DT Billings or WR Doctson with that pick. Plus, we lead for Jets NT Harrison. Seems like Robinson is making some serious moves already.

This has all the makings of a salary dump. I have been watching the Cincinnati Reds do this all off season and basically receiving pennies on the dollar in some of their trades. The trade should not be for anything higher than a 5th round pick and that will be a good trade for the Titans. They immediately upgraded their roster for a mid round draft pick (hopefully). The whole idea of the offseason is to get better players and the Titans have done just that. I believe this was reported before free agency for one reason....to let potential free agents know that the Titans are ready to improve their roster by any means possible. I think they address the OL in FA and trade out of the first pick and move up and down the draft as their targeted players become available.

I hate Chip Kelly with all my heart and all my soul.

DeMarco, make that clown look dumb. It would be extra glorious seeing you return to form in a Titans jersey and every fan across the league gets to realize just how awful Chip is.

The good news: We have a RB.
The bad news: He's way overpaid and we still have no OL (Hoping this changes on Wednesday with Mack and/or Schwartz).

I'd blame at least 70% of Murray's struggles last year on Chip and the Eagles OL. Chip didn't use Murray properly. Ran him outside the tackles Whiz style. Chip is a stubborn ******* and I don't blame Murray for hating him. But Murray should never have left Dallas.

I am holding out hope that we spent no more than a 6th or 7th round pick to acquire him, considering his contract is awful. If it's a 3rd, I'll die. Also, hopefully we restructured the contract, but I doubt it.

Just so everyone knows... Murray's first carry after Chip was fired went for a 54 yard TD, so there's that.

If I ever run into him in public I will tell him to make Chip look like the clown that he is.

    Chip sucks. Go Titans!

So what are we supposed to project him for next year then? Last season? In a scheme that didn't fit him whatsoever? On a team he basically despised when he figured out he's not going to be able to produce as much? You bring up good points about how it's hard to tell if a RB will be good or not because a lot more factors go into that position but let's look at a few things here.

This isn't a bad deal whatsoever. Like I mentioned earlier, we getting a great value here. We're giving up a low pick (more than likely) and Murray is coming cheaper than the deal he signed last year. This is a low risk/high reward move. He's here for 2 years, 3 years at the absolute best, if he doesn't produce then he doesn't hurt us long term. This is Jon Robinson making a great move and filling a need for cheaper than the market price and provides a patch without killing us down the road.

If you take a look at a link I provided a few pages back now, I pulled up the stats of Michael Turner when both he and Mularkey were in Atlanta. Same style of RB but Murray a little more talented and well-rounded when looking at skill set. Turner killed it his last few years in the NFL. Very effective scheme for guys like Murray.

So no, we can't project Murray's future based off 2 years ago but we can look at the variables provided and come up with our own projections. I think he's going to have a fine year. J-Rob didn't make this trade so he could do nothing with the OL. He wants to protect and build around Mariota. The OL is going to be revamped, Murray is going to be in an ideal system and he's going to be hungry to get back on track.

He's had 2 good seasons in his career and a terrific one. This isn't based off some small sample size. Obviously it would've been easier to determine if he would've stayed a bit more healthy but I don't see any reason why he wouldn't succeed here when he's on the field.

WOW did NOT see this coming!!

Let me get my pessimism out of the way..never a fan of 28-32 year old RB's with big contracts..

But Antonio Andrews was our freaking starting RB last season!! We easily had the WORST RB group in the league, and we went out and did something about it!!! I'll commend Jon Robinson for his BOLDNESS..

I do think if we draft Tunsil #1 and find a good G OR C [can't expect all 5 OL to be AMAZING] this OL and run game could change very quickly. Maybe they sign 1 of the good C's on the market and Poutasi can hold down the other G spot. I would imagine this is for a conditional 5th or 6th, and that's fine.. If it's for a 4th, I'll be slightly disappointed.. Anything earlier [a 3rd] would be ludicrous. Also very curious to see how exactly his contract has been re-worked.

Murray is 100% the type of back Mularkey loves...so don't expect any of the 'poor fit' in Philly stuff to happen here.. No, this is a move that will actually fit our scheme/game plan and the way our head coach wants to play. I commend JR/Mularkey for actually going out and looking for 'fits'

#33 now looks like a WR [Josh Doctson] or CB [Eli Apple or Kendall Fuller] to me..

to wrap up my thoughts..I'm skeptical but chalk me up as a FAN of the move.

We just got better. And we can now get better at other spots.

From all the reliable NFL guys and even Murray's agency, there have been numerous tweets about a restructured contract.

If we land Jets NT Harrison, I wonder if we take DT Billings at #33 if he happens to slide to us?

I think Sankey has more potential than DMac. McCluster always dances around too much rather than making one move and getting up field.

McCluster at least can catch a ball- Sankey actually became worse over the last 2 seasons. He's the RB equivalent of CBJ - all clipboard, no game.
