Free Agency Discussion Thread

Offense didn't win them the super bowl. Marshall was brought in in 2013. Most teams change a few players every year. The last year the Broncos were huge players in free agency was 2014, and it didn't help them win the Super Bowl that year. They didn't win the Super Bowl until Phillips showed up and put in his defensive scheme.
The winners in free agency in 2015 were the Dolphins, the Colts, and the Eagles. Non of them made the playoffs.

Just because you perceive the Jags improved by signing free agents, doesn't mean they actually improved. Amukamara may have been one of the top free agent Cbs, for instance, but that doesn't mean he was one of the top Cbs in the league. If that were the case, New York wouldn't have let him leave.

 

The jags made 1 fa acquisition that scares me (Jackson). The texans made 1 (miller), but also lost 2 olinemen. The colts have done nothing (have they?). We pickup up the best available rb (huge upgrade) and signed a c from the texans. Also we haven't blown any money yet on average talent. We are winning fa as of now, imo.

 

No one is saying winning free agency immediately guarantees a Super Bowl. The point is it makes your team better. You improve. You take a step in right direction. It lets you fill in the large holes and later focus on the fine tuning. You get more flexibility in the daft.

All the pick ups the Broncos did in 2013, 2014, & 2015 helped them win the super bowl this year. Any argument against that is ignorant. Let's not forget #18 in that equation.

FA could create an immediate impact or it can take some time for new players to gel.

Bottom line is the Jags are the ones taking the largest step in the right direction. Maybe it pays dividends in 2016, maybe not. At least they're making the moves.

 

Manning didn't do much to win the Super Bowl. He was one of the worst starters in the league last season. What about the Panthers? They were considered free agency losers the last couple of seasons. Didn't stop them. Most teams aren't going to fix their roster to the point that they are going to be the division leaders in one season after being horrible the year before with one free agency. The Broncos already had a playoff team. Yeah, they signed some free agents, but their team was already talented to begin with. They signed Ware to replace Dumervill. Talib replaced Bailey. Sanders replaced Decker.

My point is that fans make winning in free agency a bigger deal than it actually is. You can't deny the fact that rarely do teams who win in free agency actually improve much that season. I just gave three examples from last season. The media made a big deal about all three teams winning in free agency, and none of them improved. As a matter of fact they actually had worse seasons.

 

Next off season, they will be saying the same things about us.

 

Maybe, but I doubt it. So far it seems that Robinson is going into free agency with a similar mindset that the Patriots do. Not a lot of big splash players. Signing more role players. He talked about Stacking great drafts to build a team. The teams that are the most consistent at winning seem to be better in the draft. Examples: Greenbay, New England, Pitsburgh, even Carolina as of late.

 

What I am seeing is bridge players. People to improve the team as we build through the draft. Building for Mariotas future.

We take as much pressure off of him as we can. In a few years, itll be Mariotas team if he developes like we hope. He has to make it there first. Having a run game is helpful to young QBs as they got more experience. Itll also let Mariota use those great playfakes and destroy teams.

I wish we had more pieces but itll take more time. This coming draft is a big one. I read that Robinson said the first picks should be starters. Lets hope his first three picks are.

 

LMFAO you are dense. If you think FA acquisitons was not a key reason why the broncos were able to win the SB or hold the best passing offense in the league 2 years ago, you need help.

Name call all you want. I have proved my point. Winning during free agency doesn't usually equal playoffs, nor does it guarantee a division winner. As I sad before. The Broncos were a playoff team before signing their free agents in 2014 and 2015. They wouldn't have won that Super Bowl without Phillips.
