Probably not, but the truth is we have no idea how Robinson values either player.

You can get a pretty good idea from their tape

Mariota is better by a mile right now

not to say Wentz cant get there, but he's got a lot of work ahead to get there

I agree Mariota is much better. There's no point debating that. I think everyone on this forum agrees Mariota is much better.

And it's probably safe to assume Robinson agrees, too. But we have admit that we really have no idea what Robinson's evaluation of Mariota is. The only piece of evidence we have is that Robinson's Buccaneers passed on Mariota at #1 overall last year.

Yeah I definitely think there are teams out there thinking they can wait to trade up until maybe pick 7 or later for either Wentz or Goff. Taking Wentz would screw that up. Would someone want him bad enough to trade us for Wentz after we selected him? Maybe.

Sometimes you have to think outside the box and not do what everyone else expects in order to get ahead.

I wish Robinson would at least pitch it as a possible consideration by us, instead of the transparency. I mean it's simple enough to say "2016 Mariota is unquestioned starter. But injuries occur and we are impressed enough by Wentz that we think teams would be foolish not to trade up for him, therefore we may be foolish to pass on him." You can go on and on about how sitting him to develop for a year is best due to his level of competition and how sitting a year is always best for a QB blah blah blah. I'm sure they could come up with a better PR spin than this paragraph but you get the gist.

What I would NOT do is trade Mariota barring the largest trade in NFL history. I said in another thread, if 49ers want to offer next 5 years 1st round picks, then we talk but outside of something ridiculous then no way.

But I would still, at least, consider drafting Wentz. Again, if we are stuck with a starter level NFL QB as backup that aint the worst thing possible. Obviously the drafter (Robinson or us in make believe) has to believe that is Wentz floor- starter level NFL QB.

He's played one season in the NFL so far, so there's no possible way you can conclude that.

No way would I do that, Mariota is "our guy" and once you have that guy you do all you can to surround him with talent. I would go as far to say that I wouldn't take any trade for this guy, he has potential to be our franchise quarterback for a decade plus which we haven't had in over a decade and we see where that has gotten us. Nah I'm good.
