Um, you're drinking the koolaid. You wanna tell me he dominated Auburn? He should have given up at least 2 sacks in that game but his QB bailed him out. last time I checked, Auburn's in the SEC. And he had an up and down game in 2014 vs LSU and Daniel Hunter I believe. Not exactly a top 5 talent.

And even the whole thing about Ogbah. While he was excellent in pass pro the whole game (only part of it against Ogbah), he did nothing against Ogbah in the running game. Which is the POINT!!!

No one thinks he's a bad pass protector, but he doesn't fit our run scheme. He's not a power run blocker...even when helped with a double team he rarely gets much movement. If you run a zone scheme and want him to take out a LB at the second level...he's excellent and as good as you'll find in this draft. But for what we are trying to do scheme-wise...he's not a good run fit.

    That's the problem.

And personally, he's not as lock down a pass pro as I'd like in a #1 overall pick. He has the athleticism and movement skills, but I like more fit and certainty with #1 overall. And that's not even bringing up his red flags.

How about Anthony Davis for a 5th round pick right after we make our first selection (if it's not Tunsil of course)? He fits everything we want...excellent RT, power blocking guy, like 26yrs old, and on a reasonable contract!!!

Tell me how many sacks he gave up in his entire career at Ole Miss....

Now remember those 54 the Titans gave up last year? Don't try this "should have" bs, he didn't. I point out Ogbah for one reason and one reason only and NO it doesn't matter he didn't play 1 on 1 the entire game. He OWNED Ogbah (who is one of the top 5 DE in this draft) when they lined up against each other. Pure, simple and very easy to understand. I did however also mention 2 games he had some issues in, 1 being the A@M game. I have yet to pronounce him the second coming because he isn't perfect. I do however realize where our team could use the most help... DID I MENTION 54 SACKS?

Here's a simple formula to help those who aren't understanding this in a completely logical, no emotion argument. Keep Mariota upright and healthy. Prolong drives increasing ToP. Keep a suspect defense off the field longer. Not trying to be a jerk but that right there is a formula for more success than drafting a CB/S/NB who is not a ball hawk (meaning doesn't create turnovers) with a defensive line which yes got more pressure last year than the year before BUT could not get off the field when it mattered. Taking that into account, even if they only increase ToP by 3 minutes a game greatly benefits a defense who was dead legged by the fourth quarter in most games. That won't change if the ToP doesn't change. Also playing with the top cb on the team injured most of the season didn't help. If we can keep McCourty health and it's a big if that will also help. As I said in a previous post, I'm an old school guy. I just see thing differently than you do.

I think Gut would agree with the fact that better lines equal everything you say...and maybe even want the tackle. I am old school too. That said, what I do know, is that we already have a left tackle that's a top 11 pick in his 3rd year with previous crap next to him. More importantly, while Tunsil's stats are impressive (I like his play/talent as well), he is scary as hell. 4 major injuries in 3 seasons and played 5 games last year. I mean come on, if that doesn't scare you at #1 overall with Watt and others in your division his first year.........

I know of 2 so you'll have to fill me in on the other 2, the leg (broken bone and ankle are one injury in my mind) which you have got to admit was just a freak accident and unlikely to happen again and the torn bicep which from what I've read he could have played with but the coaches held him out for fear of making it worse... that said it's not his knees his back or his shoulders which is what should raise red flags for that position. So no they don't scare me the way a knee or shoulder might.
I know Lewan... I'm going to say the same thing I've been saying for a while which many others are also saying... Lewan flips to the right side and we have bookends. I keep seeing people claim this would upset Lewan... Dudes as laid back as they come, I don't see it. Tunsil is the more gifted athlete which is why Lewan would flip and I agree you don't use the number 1 overall on a RT... thing is Lewan was probably our best lineman last season BUT the rt both guards and the center all blew chunks. We remedied the C which I hope helps the G positions and moving Lewan to RT would remedy that as well. In my eyes the best way to help this team is with Tunsil. It's an opinion and everyone's got theirs.

I'd be willing to trade a 4th for him.

Lewan did not have a great yr. I think the shoulder injury did limit him. But of the 54 sacks he was only responsible for 7.5.

Broken bone and ankle injury and a torn bicep are horrific injury concerns for an O lineman. The forces are much more intense in the NFL. High risk for another. I'm not interested in using an overall #1 pick on a player with such a risky injury history. I'd use a #8 pick-maybe.

But our Defense is our major problem. I'm sick of everybody saying "Protect mar iota.....Protect Mariota......" We're moving him more under center and reportedly going to use more of a power run game. We've got Murray now who will keep OLB's and DE's honest. That alone will "Protect Mariota".

We HAVE to do something with our defense. We can't count of LeBeau to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. He needs some talent. These cast-offs we keep giving him aren't going to do anything special. And we totally missed in FA on our D targets. (seems like the Jags kicked our azz in FA)

Why? just package him in with a trade to #7 at a below 4th value. We need ALL OF OUR PICKS AND AS MANY OTHERS AS WE CAN GET.

We need players and culture change. We didn't do chit in FA for the D.
