Were we to take him I would be reluctant to pigeon-hole him. Use him where we have need in the playbook. Throw him passes , hand stuff off to him , use him in play-action out of the backfield even Special Teams on KR/PR. He has the skills to be good at all of this even though he is not master of any of those IMO.

Would be shocked if we did take him over TE ( for sure ) and maybe Safety depending on how the new guys do back in the secondary.

McCaffrey is fun to watch in college, but I'm really having a hard time seeing his level of success translating to the NFL. People keep comparing him to Reggie Bush. I don't see the same player, but I do see a guy whose ceiling might only be the NFL version of Reggie Bush. That's not bad at all, but I have him graded as a late 2nd/early 3rd round pick right now.

Ive heard he's the next Marshall Faulk.

If you remember, Faulk was lethal in the passing game, I could see McCaffrey in a Faulk-like role.

That's actually a pretty good comparison now that I see it. Remember Reggie Bush had to develop quite a bit to be successful in the league. McCaffery might have to do the same.

We need a number one cornerback after next years draft. With Tarbor, Sutton, White, Jackson, King, and Peppers there is legitimately no excuse. Next year will be arguably the strongest draft for DBs ever, and that's not even including the plethora of S talent as well. I like to think that is the reason we passed this year.

JR can't make the same mistake again. An elite pass rusher would be a nice, but we still have a few solid ones in Orakpo and Morgan. We can't say the same about our league-worst secondary.

Reggie Bush's game fits the NFL fine, its his knack for always being hurt thats slowed his NFL career down. 121 of a possible 160 games played isnt bad but its enough to keep teams from being able to invest in you as a RB. I wouldn't want our team committing to a guy whos constantly hurt and unavailable.
But his style of play isnt his issue IMO.

I see where you're coming from. At times he looks like Wes Welker, Danny Woodhead, and a slower Reggie Bush. He's a matchup nightmare for college and if an NFL team is gonna feature him with his strengthes (return game, slot wr, passing out if the backfield, run game vs nickel/dime defenses), he's worth a first round pick. If he's gonna be a Danny Woodhead, he's not. His value is gonna be based on what team takes him and how much he will be featured to play within his strengths. He also needs a team that has good run blocking as he cant make a hole himself and needs some space to shake and bake ppl.

Right now I'd have him rated as a 2nd round pick but a team in the back end of round 1 could certainly take him. He'd do very well on a Carolina/Seattle type offense due to their run game prowess but could be an awesome weapon for NE as they would maximize his usage in mismatches.

Are there any issues as of right now that might cause him to drop further than early 2nd?

Brian Westbrook is a good comparison as well

Might cause him to drop? Not as fast as people think. Maybe can't pass block too well. Needs holes made for him or he can only get what the OL gives him. Reading and vision may not be as good as you'd think of a guy with his stats!

Those are things that MIGHT get him to drop. But like how some ppl thought Scooby Wright - coming off and absolute MONSTER season - was gonna be a sure fire 1st round pick and then went late in the 7th instead, injuries and physical numbers can play a big role...as will people really breaking down his tape.
