Mariota deep ball is pretty bad but it's not Chad Henne bad.

His short and medium accuracy is right up there though so he just needs an average deep ball to keep defenses on their heels.
And of course better O line and WR play will help.

I think I'll just trust that the kid didn't hit his ceiling his rookie year and move on with my life.

You should have a look at how many fumbles Brady and Rodgers had in their first couple years starting in the league.

Did they have damn near 30 in college? That was what made me worry about it in the first place. 27 fumbles in college and then 10 more his first year in the NFL.

    It's a bad trend.

As bad as Brady's 36 in his first 3 years in the NFL?

As I've said before, when we're competing for Super Bowls I'll live with it. Until then it's a problem.

Most young qbs fumble a lot. Especially mobile qbs. Mariota will get better at securing the ball as he gains experience. As for JCBrave's comment about it being because his arm is weak, Peyton manning had one of the weakest arms in the league the last couple of seasons. 3 fumbles in 2 seasons. It's not about arm strength. It's about awareness in the pocket.

Pocket awareness is a bigger deal than overall arm strength, but you'd be hard pressed to show he has a strong right arm as far as power goes...
