That's exactly the problem. We keep hiring these HCs that are not right for the team. Whiz wanted a pass heavy attack w/ no QB. Mularkey wants an extreme run heavy attack now that we finally have a QB. Mularkey is not a guy who is going to develop Marcus. He is far more concerned about running the ball. His past & everything he has said this off season points to a ride the clock predictable offense.

At some point we have to pick a HC that may actually have a future. Munchak, Whiz, & Mularkey (The last 3 HCs) were all destined to fail IMO. Whiz was so dead set on running his system he would not adjust it to the players he has. To be completely honest you can see parts of that from Mularkey as well. They are just opposite philosophies; one pass heavy, one run heavy. This team continues to hire mediocre HCs. It is a big reason we have not been able to develop any of the talent we have drafted. Yes a lot of them are on Webster. However, at some point a HC has to develop some of those players the GM reached for.......

Sorry bit of a tirade there.......Just sick of seeing this team settle for less than average at one of the most important spots on the team.

Robinson has shown some good things in his short tenure. However, I seriously doubt he would of gotten the job if he had not lowered his standards & excepted Mularkey as HC.

Marcus has the tools to be great IMO. However, working under a HC that undoubtedly will have to be replaced in a few years only sets back his development. Just my honest opinion.

Hate to be the one all negative during the time of year reserved for all fans to be overly optimistic. However, I just cannot shake the feeling that as long as Mularkey is HC we will be no better than a 5 win team.

Between Mularkey, Dick, and Robiski....he scares me the most. While position coaches still matter a lot (Bostad), Robiski is the one who will be calling the plays.

Just to be clear. Hes not an eloquent speaker. However I dont think that will have anything to do with how he calls plays. He can sound like CJ did his rookie season for all I care, as long as this offense moves the ball. I have been more lenient than most about our current coaching staff. I think Mularkey and this team will improve a noticable amount.

Whiz always sounded really smart to me. How'd that work out?

I measure coaches by their ability to get their player to perform. I don't care what he sounds like.

He's a friggin' football coach—not the leader of the free world.

No apology needed bro. I understand your point completely. Mularkey worries the hell out of me, but I do think he will be better than Whiz. Mainly because Whiz tried to kill Mariota and put players at positions that had zero business being there. Webster and our scouts killed us with bad picks that didn't help as well. I do think Mularkey wants best For Mariota and will protect him. Run heavy will help him be more balanced and hopefully open up our pass game.

Whis didn't throw it 40 times a game because it was his scheme or because he wanted to kill Marcus.

He did it because we were not physically capable of running the ball consistently. That was his failure. Not his decision to pass a lot.

He said when he got here he wanted a 50/50 balanced attack.

He got away from that against his will because we couldn't run.

Just learn to run the freaking ball and keep using a balanced attack. This idea of changing the scheme to protect Marcus is so stupid.

Let me be coach. We will run QB kneel down 3 times and then punt. Guarantee he plays all 16 games. To what end? We will still suck and our player I protected didn't get used.

Of course we couldn't run....Anyone could see that...but when you are starting a rookie guard at RT, and guys like DMC and Leon Washington, he may not have intended it...but he certainly helped Marcus get crushed and often. Call the scheme what you will, but you can't win in the NFL if you can't run the rock. At least this staff is trying to address that, which will ultimately help Mariota, the offense, and defense...I just want to win games for once!
