No, it's not stolen. It's streaming from the Internet. As long as you are not downloading and saving the content it is legal. Its already on the Internet, all you're doing is streaming whats already out there.

 

Yes, there are other options out there that have Kodi but the reason I liked this box is number one it's the only one that I could find that had tha Channel Up app, which has a ton of live stations, and the main reason is it's easy to keep updated. No downloading and figuring out which apps to install or update. It has an update wizard and the box tells you when it's time for an update and with one click all of the apps are updated. It's very easy to keep running smooth.

 

"PPV" literally stands for Pay Per View, all three being keywords. And it shouldn't take a genius to figure out that a movie that is still in the theater streaming directly to their home TV for free isn't right either.

It's essentially taking money out of the pockets of those who own or would benefit from the content though (not only large corporations but also the individual artists/performers in many cases). Admittedly, I haven't done enough research into the legality of it for you, the end user. But if it is technically legal right now through some loophole I'm sure it's only a matter of time before that status changes.

To my knowledge Kodi and all these box devices have only fairly recently hit the mainstream. You can bet legislation is coming. I suppose "get while the getting is good" and all that though.

 

Actually new legislation is what opened the doors to this to begin with. Something about when the government demanded that everything go digital it actually opened the doors to everything being stream able and in essence somewhat deregulated.

Look, if it's already on the internet anyway and anyone can find it on any computer all these boxes do is organize it so it's easier to find. Unless the government can shut down the Internet and control the disimination of media all around the world, then I say it's here to stay. Actually cable companies could go the way of Blockbuster Video, or the music recording industry someday, at a minimal maybe it'll force them to be more competitive and drop their rates. Remember when a long distance call was outrageously expensive and a big deal? Now it's pretty much free.

I still have my basic directv in my house because I would have to buy 7 of these boxes if I were to eliminate it completely in my house and it takes a while to learn how to use which isn't good for guests so the cable companies are still getting money from me. But I'm not getting hosed anymore for Sunday Ticket and if I want to watch a show, movie, or sporting event I just turn on the Streamsmart.

 

Except that cable companies like Comcast, Time Warner, and now ATT with their purchase of DirecTV are the majority of ISPs now.

ATT just started something this month where customers who do not have DirecTV have data caps of 600GB for their broadband to prevent people from fully cutting the cord from DirecTV. Of course, customers that do have DirecTV have no caps. Same product, same internet, different services. No one was grandfathered in because why bother when you're the only ISP in the area and you control Sunday Ticket?

The public will get the shaft one way or another, regardless of whether they choose to stream or not.

 

Yeah, I use Comcast for my internet but I have business Internet service which doesn't have data caps.

Still looking into buying a slingbox for about $100 and hooking it up at my parent's house in Tennessee. They have broadband internet now.

In theory, I should be able to watch their local telecast of the games on my computer or tablet... in theory.

 

The Amazon Firestick is the best $40 bucks I ever spent. Channels, movies is endless and all free.
