I've seen one of those Westeros maps and it looks similar to the British isles. I'm sure one of you knows if this dimensionally similar in size.
If it is, then it wouldn't be too difficult to get around as such..

pretty sure it's supposed to be much much larger than the isles. like winterfell to the wall is supposed to be a three week ride.

supposedly this map scales westeros to roughly the size of north america

Yep, I started reading the books around 2000 and they can speed things up as much as they want. I have no interest in reading 300 pages on what the water flow is like crossing the ocean or turtle descriptions while traveloging.

I long ago decided that I will never buy one of GRRMs books again unless from a used bookstore so not a single penny goes to him. I will finish the series by watching the shows and read the books when they are all completed and are sitting on the used bookstore shelves collecting dust.

Well I don't recommend the latter, as far as his earlier books. I've now read every novel he has done or been a part of. I'd strongly recommend his "tuf voyaging "to anyone that likes scifi or sci-fantasy. They are all good really. Windhaven, a song for lya, dying of the light, Armageddon rag, fevre dream.

I started doing so to see if game of thrones would have a worthy ending or not. I'd rate 50/50 based on prior non GoT novels.

I harbor no illwill towards the guy but I get where you are coming from with the used book thing.
