I disagree with paying them as well. Very complicated subject and no easy fix. I think their stipend should meet min wage to the local areas, or allow them to have a job if they wish, outside their sport season.

But the players are a bit dramatic about it too..stupid Arian Foster saying he was going hungry and called coaches demanding food. Yet he leaves school as a monster, and is covered in tattoos.

I think the answer is somewhere like, let them play in a d league for 3 years and see if it finds itself, if they choose not to attend school. I think most kids still choose school without pay.

Cap the coaches salaries and provide a start up 401k with profits? Most kids dont go to the NFL, this at least gives at least gives some financial benefit to go.along with.education.

The main issue with that I think is taxes. If they make actual income they now owe taxes. It's a difficult issue.

They would have to pay to attend school and still live by student athletes rules I dont think there is a difference.

    That is probably the case.

If they were able to make money from their likeness and were a prominent enough athlete to generate the money necessary for school I wouldn't have any issue with it.

Arian Foster lived across the street from me, he didn't go hungry.

He was so poor he smoked weed everyday and drove a new truck. So poor...

    BUT

On target with my actual feelings, break the football and basketball programs away from the universities and make them private companies. License the logo, names and history from the university. Pay to play on campus. The private sports team would be responsible for paying the tuition for those you wished to go and those who only want to play ball have no responsibility to actually go to school.

Then you can pay the players, market them, allow them to sign deals, sell jerseys, whatever.

But then you simply have professional sports. They have to begin paying taxes in every state they play in. Most would have to hire accountants as that becomes very complicated.
Are paid players only allowed to stay there 4 years etc? If they are not good enough for the NFL , which the overall majority are not, couldnt they just jump ftom school to school?
