People forget the defense finished 12th in the league last year after staying in the top 10 for most of the season. Once Morgan got hurt it went to crap and the last few weeks were abysmal and we still finished 12.

We were also without our best CB for the majority of the year.

The defense AND offense will only go as far as the players in it take it, theres no way you can argue the last 2 teams have been as good as Hortons Browns and LeBeaus Steelers. Thats going to be the major difference, better personnel now.

How much did the Cardinals defense help their offense last year? Having a legit defense helps the offense, you have to see that. And I know we underachieved big time last year but not because of LeBeau. At some point we stopped having capable bodies to play ball with.

You are right to a degree, but if you dont think a DC has some input about the offense then youre lying to yourself. Coaches get together and discuss these things.

Is that we're talking about though?

The defense picking up the slack for the offense is not the same thing as LeBeau directly helping Mariota between the ears, which was the gist of the article, right?

Also, at the end of the day...

well you did knock Lebeau for what our defense turned in last year, which IMO isnt fair for the reasons above.

but I get what youre saying, and generally would agree with it, just not in this situation.

Almost half of the NFL looks at Dick LeBeau for ideas. You dont think having that guy on your side is a major asset? I dont believe you would think that, youre just looking at this in the wrong way.

I agree with your point that DL is not going to help Mariota as much as people might think. Just disagreed with the student being as good as the teacher which Horton is not.

Of course the defense carried that team. But in reference to "did Rex Ryan and his defense help the offense throughout that season". Not as far as gameplay, but I guess the comparison is, was the Jets offense improved, if not slightly by Rex Ryan being the coach and because he is defensive minded, was Sanchez and that offense any better from it.
We are agreeing on almost everything here, but I think the answer is yes, even if only a little, Lebeau being the defensive coordinator does help Mariota. From your earlier posts you didn't disagree, just disagree with how much it helps.

Statistics can be molded to see whatever you want to see. Tennessee had the worst secondary in the league, not close. Yes, Mccourty was out, but I don't think he is the turnaround of this secondary on his own. The pass rush was occasionally there and injuries didn't help, but how many games were also lost by this defense. A specific game against Johnny Football comes to mind. So does Tyrod Taylor. The defense was bad against bad teams. There is no way, I'm using those numbers you just threw out there to say this defense was anything remotely better than mediocre at times.
