I'd love to go to camp one day, but it'll probably never happen. I rather save my Nashville trip for an actual game. $500 minimum trip anytime I wanna come to Nashville.

Yea same here. Just such a chore freeing up time to make the trip. But I do need to make it to camp, every fan here needs to experience that kind of thing.

At the HOF game it was awesome being that close to the players you watch every week, gotta imagine camp is about the same..

Mariota wasn't scheduled for more than 1 day last year, yet he made himself available after several practices

Hopefully for those of you going Casey will do the same

I make the 5 hour journey down there for camp every year. When I lived in Nashville I would go to probably 4 or 5 every year.

This year I will be going to the practice at Nissan stadium this year, so probably won't get to be as close as when I go to STSP, but its at 6:00, so it will be worth it to not sit in the miserable heat.

I always meant to go to camp. Lived in Nashville ten years and never did. Now it takes me three flights for a grand total of 27 hours travel time, so I'll pass.

I'm probably going to a Giants practice, I'd definitely have hit a Titans practice if I lived there for 10 yrs.

Speaking as someone who has been to most of the Titans training camp practices, I'd like to caution some of you eager beavers that most practices are pretty boring.

Under Fisher, Munchak and Whiz, practices always started out with stretching for 15-20 minutes, followed by 30-45 minutes of position group work. So about an hour, or half of each practice, is stretching and position drills.

Due to the CBA, most practices are not fully padded and only light contact is allowed. Most practices are in shells (shorts, shoulder pads, helmets). If you're expecting to see a bunch of hitting, on most days you won't.

Even on days that it is a fully padded, full contact practice session, you won't see a lot of hitting. You won't see many tackles, if any. It's more like flag football than what you see on Sundays.

A fair amount of time is devoted to special teams, mostly kick and punt coverage. This can be about as exciting as watching paint dry.

Most practices also include 7 on 7 work. If you like to watch QBs with an unobstructed view down the field, waiting for someone to get open, you'll enjoy this.

When the team does engage in 11 on 11, keep in mind that it's not a scrimmage of the offense vs. the defense. Each practice is planned with specific goals in place. For example, on a defensive day, LeBeau might say, "I want the offense to do this, this, and this today against these defenses I'm going to call." Or the OC might say, "I want the defense to show us this look today so we can practice these plays against it." So if you see the defense in a 4-3, don't get excited; it's just so that the offense can practice some plays against a 4-3. Remember, it's not a scrimmage of offense vs. defense, it's one of the coordinators calling things he wants his people to practice.

Newbies will see more physical talent up close and personal than they've ever seen before. Caution: don't get overly impressed. There's equal, if not better, talent in 31 other NFL training camps.

Finally, training camp will never be the same without KVB and Jim Washburn. KVB was the only player I've ever seen who busted his butt on every play in camp. Most guys take it easy and pace themselves, but not KVB. Those of you who have been to training camp when Washburn was here have probably heard him - it would have been hard not to.

Just a few things for camp newbies to keep in mind.

True ... I mean it is a practice. Don't expect to get anything more than that.

For a true fan though, just seeing the guys close and out there playing is pretty cool (if you can stand the heat). You won't gain a ton of great insight into the team though.

Pacman was actually one of my favorite players at camp. There was one year they practiced at Austin Peay, and Pac would hang out just a couple of feet from the fence separating the fans from the players (which is just a 4ft tall chain link fence). He would joke around with fans between fielding punts. Actually seemed like a pretty nice guy. He gave some little kid his gloves after practice was over.
