This signing is not the coaches saying they have little faith in our wrs. Andre is a consistent player and a leader on and off the field. He brings something none of wrs have, leadership. He also brings more competition to a group full of unproven/underdeveloped talent. He could be the push our young guys need. As of now, I'd say this makes our wr group; wright, dgb, sharpe, mathews and johnson week 1. Douglas, mcbride and hunter have a lot to prove this offseason/preseason.

Worth a shot......What's the worst that can happen? If he puts up what he did in Indy it would be an upgrade on every WR we had last year except DGB.

TBH he is an upgrade over Douglas who is the vet on our team. AJ has multiple 1000yd seasons. He could have a come back year (Doubtful, but possible). If he does have a come back year it would be just another year for him. It would be the 1st time in the career of Douglas. So IMO it's worth the gamble. In a worse case scenario he takes over the Douglas role of mentor. He is said to be a hard working pro. He can be the guy that DGB learns from. I would much rather DGB's career mirrored that of AJ than Douglas. Hopefully he can mentor DGB & provide some much needed production from a position group that needed much improvement.

I don't see him being a huge factor in this season. Everyone could see he has lost a step. However, even with loosing a step; he is an upgrade on Douglas.

Hunter has always played scared once the preseason is over. I'd be surprised if he overcomes his fears of getting hit hard when the games count.

2 year deal actually suggests to me he'll make the roster this year.

    Hunter is probably gone.

I agree, but think Douglas will be the one getting cut. He is an a guy who is currently playing the role AJ will play. Mentor & limited production. I think AJ is an upgrade over Douglas.

JRob has said time and again that he wants to create competition, competition, competition. Adding AJ, Mathews and Sharpe this offseason has done exactly that. The group is assembled, let the best men win.

Douglas had the connection with our OC though so I am a little surprised. Oh well guess he knows how bad he is.

Douglas was one of the most targeted WRs on our team; but put up very pedestrian numbers. I think if anyone is on the spot it is him. He has ties to Mularkey & the OC; but if they are really putting an emphasis on dependability & accountability, Douglas has to be on the spot. Not only was he targeted often with little result; but nothing about his career says that will change.

I believe Johnson makes the 53 and Douglas is the odd man out. Hunter is & should be on the spot. However, Mularkey seems to believe Hunter can improve. I am not sure why. Hunter has not played a 16 game season or put up any really productive games. Douglas MAY make the team as a KR. If that's the case McBride will not make it.

DGB, Wright, Matthews, & Sharpe are locks IMO. Johnson, Hunter, & Douglas are next in line. I see the team keeping 5 WRs, maybe a 6th as KR.

Will be interesting camp battle to see who actually sticks.

Douglas has absolutely nothing left. I'd gain a little more faith in Mularkey and Robiskie if they're able to cut ties with him despite their Atlanta connection.

You may be right. His ties to the OC & Mularkey MAY save his job. Really I hope not. I think Johnson makes the team. Mularkey seems to have made Hunter his project. He spoke a lot this year about motivating Hunter. Cutting Hunter would be like saying he couldn't get it done. I think that would probably be best for the team; but I wonder if his ego will stop it from happening........ We will see I guess.

I just hope for once that this team puts the best players in the best place to succeed. Last year starting 2 slot WRs on the outside was not in the best interest of the team IMO. Wright & Douglas starting outside is bad. Both guys are slot WRs. We need a real WR1 on the outside. Unfortunately, we have to hope that DGB can be that guy again this year. Hopefully he comes into his own this year.

For all the hype he has gotten; I do not buy into Sharpe being a WR1. I hope I am wrong. Hopefully Sharpe & DGB both show up big this year. It would make life much better for Marcus & the offense.
