    It's preseason...

    Let's say the Raiders go to Vegas. Oakland will surely want a football team. What kind of ripple (you're most realistic AND outrageous) affects do you guys think could come out of this?

    Scenario 1
    Chargers -> Oakland?
    Jaguars -> San Diego?

    Scenario 2
    New Franchise to Oakland
    Expansion Team in New Mexico

    Scenario 3
    Adams sell Titans to new owner who takes the team to Oakland - West Coast! Black and Blue is the new Black and Silver!

    The (currently) Oakland Raiders filed a trademark application for "Las Vegas Raiders."

    The move does not mean the team is definitely going to Las Vegas, but it is another strong indication there is more than smoke surrounding the proposed move to Sin City. Owner Mark Davis has said the team will move to Las Vegas if the city "comes through" on a new stadium deal, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has already publically supported the move, suggesting there is backing inside the league as well.

    If Raiders leave them no team is going to the bay area.

    No team is going to Oakland, they are refusing to fund a stadium and their old one is trash.

    Yup, what team would want to play at a stadium where the sewage fills the dugouts during baseball games and they hang paper cups to catch water dripping from cracks in the concrete walls. One article says they still use old tv's in some of their booths.

    Area fans that want local team go 49ers. Die-hards follow them to LV.

    We've seen this happen again and again in the past. Look at the Dodgers. Look at the Browns.

    They all wanted upgrades, but for whatever reason the city doesn't budge or some personal issues get in the way. Eventually that team moves and within 5 years a new team comes in and a new stadium is built.

    Oakland will have a team with or without Raiders. Bank on it.

    Jags just invested heavily into jacksonville. Titans just invested in their facility and have a deal for the stadium for a long while still, plus pro teams are moving INTO nashville, not away from it. And expansion won't happen because it will break the perfect 32 team structure they currently have.

    Only option is the chargers but I find it EXTREMELY unlikely they move to oakland.

    Most likely scenario:
    Las Vegas Raiders
    Los Angeles Chargers

    Possible Scenario:
    Las Vegas Raiders
    San Antonio Chargers

    Fun Scenario:
    Las Vegas Raiders
    Mexico City Chargers
    London Jaguars

    Yea I agree. Chargers to Oakland sounds like a dance of the lemons.

    I really don't think this "perfect 32 team structure" is going to last forever. Reading the tea leaves suggest that the NFL absolutely plans to expand: Outside US games, adding more teams to the playoffs, increasing the number of games in the season, etc.

    Now whether or not their additions or elegant or not remains to be seen. I.E. 2 new teams per conference to keep things even VS 2 new teams total, adding an extra team to 1 division per conference.

    We've had wonky stuff in the past and it worked fine. We may have to deal with that for a couple years as getting 4 new teams to start simultaneously seems impossible.
