Regarding the INT, that's a rookie mistake and IS the definition of trying to do too much on a blown up play. I hate sacks but that is one of the few times you eat it. If you try and throw it away, still likely to get picked as his body is moving in the wrong direction Should never have thrown that and despite the fact that the play got blown up because of Douglas' mistake, that was Mariota's decision to throw the ball and the result is the result.

I think you are misinterpreting him staring down a receiver as reading a route combo. For example, they ran a route combo several times with the outside WR running a slant and the inside wr running an out. Read the defense to see which is open. Most times against tight man teams throw to the slant as Mariota did.

But if you watch the tape closely, even from the TV camera angle, you can see some problems with the WR's and Mariota's decision making. I'll point out a couple so this isn't a book!

At :25, Mariota rolls right and hits Matthews on a comeback route. You might notice that Matthews and Sharpe end up at almost the same place. That shouldn't happen. Either Sharpe is supposed to run a shorter depth route or Matthews is supposed to be deeper so you have a 3 level read for Mariota.

At 1:05, the Titans are again in a full house set and when I watched this play live, it looked like a broken play. Watching the replay, I realize they were trying to sucker in the D to defend the option with Mariota then throwing a shovel pass to Delanie. There was too much congestion to throw the shovel pass to Mariota smartly pulled it back and tossed it out of bounds. But this play is poorly designed. Why is Murray so deep and basically out of the play?

At 2:53, the left outside WR runs a 5yd hitch. Douglas is the slot WR to that side and is supposed to run a corner route to the corner of the endzone, but he can't fight threw the press coverage...at all! Mariota threw it away, but if you can run 10 yards downfield vs 1 cb, we have a serious problem!

How the heck do you figure that? I'd bench him for his tackling alone, but he's been getting toasted for several quarters a game. He's best when he can play the flat or can play outside shade man so he can read the QB.

He's definitely not playing well. And he's certainly not the only one!!! But the coaching staff thought our pass D would improve with getting him back. It's been worse more often than not!

Dude, are we ignoring the few times we blitzed and we knew a pass would come out quick on 3rd and long. All he had to do was tackle his guy and he whiffed and gave up the first down. He's been tackling too poorly for a starting QB!

I agree he goes for balls, but we need good tacklers. It is the first sign of a good defense. TACKLING!!!

I agree we won't go far without a #1 CB and McCourty isn't it anymore. He's usually solid in coverage but he sometimes gets beat too (though he usually tackles the guy without giving up the TD). We have no #1 CB let alone a shut down guy.

Good points about bad/wrong routes. That may be the reason Mariota seems to be staring receivers down longer than last year; he could be trying to figure out what the h... his receiver(s) is (are) doing. Mularkey has mention in PCs about receivers not being at the right depth.
And the most surprising issue with Marcus is carried over from last season; his apparent lack of short-area elusiveness. First, he stands rigid looking for a receiver until the milli-second he's about to get sacked, then he takes off to run. Looking at guys like Rothlesberger, or even the much younger Buc, Winston, they seem to always be aware of where the pressure is coming from and can quickly glide away from it AND STOP AND RESET to throw, keeping their eyes on their receivers. Marcus, once he starts running, never seems to stop on his own, although he may throw while on the run. I'm not saying he won't learn how to reset himself, but that skill IMO is something he really needs to learn...

It's a tough situation. There is no question that our receivers suck...and I don't doubt that they are clueless. We clearly need help. That said, Carson Wentz (even though I am not sold on him just yet) is tearing it up with average receivers outside of Matthews and without Wentz. I am a big believer of Marcus, but his turnovers and his arrant throws need to stop. He needs to settle down and hopefully they will adjust the scheme to match his skill set. Kendall and Walker coming back should help.

And another item, all game long I was curious why Cox seemed to be covering Amari Cooper so much, with McCourty our "best" CB? Why didn't we move McCourty wherever Cooper was lining up?? Maybe Lebeau just figured Cooper will beat anyone we put on him?

I'll assume that's on Sharpe. He's been tossed in the deep end and has, on the most part, been outstanding. But there's a learning curve for any rookie WR and he'll get better (though didn't play well Sunday).

I think we have a serious problem.

He seemed more comfortable in the pocket last year to me. When his first option isn't open, I'm seeing him sometime lose his mechanics looking to extend the play when he often needs to throw it away (as he did on a few plays on this clip) or run the ball.

For example, the duck to Amaro on Sunday was horrible and he was lucky it wasn't picked off. I know he was working to extend a play but that had disaster written all over it.

I hope we're back here next week saying how much better he looked with Walker and Wright on the field. Though I expect rust with KW, I think he's quick enough to get separation.

I dont like what im seeing so far but we have a new offense, new scheme, new WRs, and a second year QB who is still being developed. (Insert punchline here)

Mariota is off. The WRs are off. The only part of offense that isnt off is the running game. I expect/hope improvement over the next few games. I dont think we will know how good or bad we are for a few more games.

    Rebuttal: but other teams.

Were not that other team. We are bottom dwellers trying to claw our way into significance again.

My biggest concern right now is Mularkey/Robiskie...

Why the **** are we throwing on 1st down so much? It's not working and our run game was on fire. Then we run on 2nd & 10 and put ourselves in a predictable passing situation on 3rd.

The Raiders couldn't stop our run in the 2nd half. Murray was one of the top rushers this week, and we managed 10 points. That's embarrassing.

Mariota wouldn't look so bad if our play calling was better. Good coaches get the best out of their players. This staff isn't doing that. Mariota's talents are being wasted by Mularkey and Robiskie's stupid offense.

Fire Robiskie and hire Greg Roman right now. No need to wait. We all knew Robiskie was an awful hire from the start just by looking at the guy and realizing he has not been an OC since the early 90s with the LA Rams.

First time we have a 100 yard rusher since 2013 and we can only manage 10 points. I hope JRob has told Mularkey/Robiskie what's up because this sh*t can't be tolerated.

I agree the fumbles by Mariota especially need fixed. But Wentz has fumbled 3x as well, just fortunately for him/eagles they weren't lost.

The interceptions for Wentz will come too.
