    Lies, Damn Lies, and Stats...

I am a U of Memphis fan and years ago one individual on the Memphis message board showed me, beyond a shadow of the doubt, you can use stats to prove anything you want to prove, no matter HOW ridiculous it might be. Stats are the last thing I look at for what I see happening on the field with my own eyes.

This guy could make Larry effing Porter look like the greatest coach to ever hold a clipboard.

Stats are exactly that stats, for the most part mean nothing they don't create wins. You could potentially have a WR with a 1000+ yards and very little TDs. A DE with double figures in sacks and no wins, a offence who are best in the league but with the worst defence. Stats can be thrown about but they don't win Super Bowls or in the titans case the division.

Better stats for players is a direct indication to how that person played and thus reason for that person to NOT be replaced as a team tries to progress.

You basically used Keyshawn Johnson for your first example. SB ring
JJ Watt in your second. Not zero wins, but certainly not SB worthy team.
The early-mid 2000's for the Colts is your 3rd example. Eventually a SB ring.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of your post was, but stats are important in discussing value and comparing players. Sure there exists things that are not quantifiable, and stats can be affected by the team around a player, but they definitely have value.
