I thought he (McCourty) was in the coverage on TY Hilton's TD last week?

I don't think the article counted last week's game

That kinda bothered me too hearing about this for a second time. Sounds like any easy fix. More reps on technique. Heck have him warming up before each series on his mechanics. Geez we don't have to think outside of the box here..

I understand your frustrating but why do you keep harping on the idea that Mariota can't grasp this entire playbook? That's not the issue right now.

Read the fine print....or actually the print at the top. I put a disclaimer in. I tried to find a current one, but that is all the PFF site had. It's bad enough - after two weeks of Kessler and Luck getting 350 we may be near the bottom. Conversely, the Jags were rated 9th. MM is going to have to get on his game.

It's a combination of a lot of things, but right now it's a one read stare down. That tells me he is uncomfortable back there. Sunday he had Sharpe open underneath for yards that would have given us a FG at the least and AGAIN threw a 2o yard pass to the sidelines to a I think Matthews who was covered up. In the Raiders game he has Sharpe at the sticks (4 yard line) but stared down Douglas who slipped. Game over. When a QB can't go through progressions it's trouble. He is never going to move a safety unless he can do this. The best in the league "stare" down a receiver then turn to the other side of the field and cut loose. This system may not be for him, but it is what most NFL QB's run. You have to admit, the only time he has been hit is when he didn't feel the pressure. 99% of the time the line is giving him MORE than enough time to throw. So they built a fortress around him. We max protect. He is his own worst enemy. When he learns the pocket and to move, we can put more receivers out and he will have more targets, but there is really no sense in that now since he only looks at one. This is my concern. I hope he gets it, I really do. He has a huge upside, and can be very talented. At times I feel bad criticizing him, but then I think of that fat check he cashed, so he has to accept what goes with it. Sadly, we don't have enough talent to let him spend 3 years developing, but it actually might take that. I have heard some people in the know say two years at the least. They also talk about how some of the best - Brady, Roth, etc. had a run first type team the first few years. It really is the only way to bring a QB along that you threw into the fire, and didn't let him learn under a veteran. So get used to a lot of running.

Well I wish everybody would allow him to go through the growing pains of trying to be an NFL qb. You stated it yourself, he was thrown into the fire without learning from a vet. Instead we start threads like this after a bad game. Criticizing is fine. Its warranted sometimes. Let's just remember that he has a lot of experience to gain from trial and error so early into his career. We gonna be alright people.

I think what happens is that a few people think MM is the second coming of Brady, and tend to overstate his talents. So when he has a bad game, it's a bit of payback for all the chest beating. We need some middle ground.
