"well they basically laid out that ford had manipulated maeve's "awakening"... the only question is whether she made the decision on her own to go back for her daughter or if she was always programmed to stay"

i have no idea why it put quote tags around my spoiler post. that quote is from me.

as for maeve, they lay out that she's been programmed to have her awakening. felix even tells her the steps she's programmed to make. he starts to tell her what she's programmed to do next and she stops him. it's stated that it appears someone with arnold's clearance has changed her program but we learn it was ford acting under arnold's name.

    I watched the finale again.

Maeve was never meant to actually leave and she didn't gain consciousness and decide to get off the train.

When they reactivate Bernard and he tells her someone rewrote her story he is reading off the steps and when he gets to the train platform he is about to read what she does next but she slaps the tablet out of his hand breaking it.

I think she was programmed to make it to the train and get off and return to the park without actually leaving. Ford does not want them to leave the park, at least not yet.

OK... so I was gonna buy the 'novel' by Crichton. I went to Abebooks and they had nothing, which was not what I was expecting. I was expecting my pick of $0.01 novels with $3.99 shipping...

So I checked out Amazon... $200 for a regular novel and $550 for a signed copy

    I was like WTF!

    so I investigated.

There was never a novel for Westworld. What I was looking at was a script of the movie with a few stills sold in novel format. So zero information to be found in the 'book'

So that leaves me thinking that the current HBO 10 parter was probably at best inspired by the movie cause we all know it is its own thing.

I disagree with some of you. I am certain Maeve broke her programming and exerted her "free will" by leaving the train to get her daughter. I am not even sure if it were Ford who rewrote her. Charlotte (the board representative who forced Ford to retire) telling the narrative director to get someone on the train. I believe he rewrote Maeve's story to escape and get on the train, when she saw the little girl it triggered her cornerstone memory and she made the choice to return to save her "daughter".
