Dude, we are building a team here. Not for now. Not for next year. But for the long haul.

Having two of the better tackles in league, both very young, is a godsend. It is the Matthews and Stewart our new run.

For years, we built by frantically plugging holes with whatever mediocre talent was available at our picks.

Great teams are built with great players.

I for one am thrilled to have a gm who seems to be able to target certain players that are good players and fit what we want to do. And then go get them. If last offseason was an example of what we can expect around here, we will be knocking on the door of a super bowl in the very near future.

Anyone that would rather have the kid from Ohio state and our second back rather than what we got is insane. That second would likely be a meh caliber starter. Or a complete miss. This is not a science.

Instead, we have young, nasty bookends that will protect our franchise and open holes for our backs for a decade.

This is how you build champions.

The only caveat... we have to see how well JR can manage a cap. He is going to have a lot of guys to pay in a few years.

Which is better than the problem we have long had. Lots of money and nobody worth paying.

I'm sure there's a spreadsheet somewhere on JRob's laptop with expected non-rookie contracts for Lewan, Mariota and Conklin and how that affects cap space.

Fair point. But in defense of the better couch GM's...or is it Couch Potato GM's? I didn't hear anyone say Conklin wasn't a really good OT! I think everyone agreed that Conklin was a first round OT who was a perfect fit for this team. However, it doesn't mean we can't question this player or that player. Afterall, what did the Titans get out of Dodd, Johnson, Henry just for example? And a lot of those people who wanted to take a 1st or 2nd round cb and get a good OT later don't appear to be wrong either since our CB situation is about as rough as it gets and wasn't adequately addressed in FA nor the draft.

Points to be made on both sides! Keep in mind Conklin cost us pretty much a first AND high second round picks as not only did we move up to take him in the first, but we gave up that Rams 2nd round pick too!!! That is a ton of capital for a RT!!!
