Positionless or MORE diverse in finding an adavantage?

Matheiu plays primarily nickel. Moves around a bit.

Buchannon plays "money backer" which is a euphemism for "Short career" - this guy throwing himself at lineman just tryna make this buck. He's not really making that great of an impact besides in discussions of how he's changing the game... no man his size can run into a brick ball repeatedly without catching an injury. Just wait.

Barron was a failed safety.. Moved him closer to the line and they call his position "weak safety" - aka we just tryna keep up.

You don't take these guys day one and decide to put them in these specialty roles. You find later round prospects with some key athletics to play this style. Peppers is likely to excel in one of these roles but that's NOT top five worthy.

To me I'd rather find a chess piece from the true safety position. A man quality safety that opens up zero blitzes. Kenny Vacarro doesn't get the love he deserves but he can come up and play cb on the Y just as well as any nickel.

The real problem with the Titans is lack of speed. We rarely manhandle anyone on pass rushes, but use a lot of stunts. We even had Casey doing it. At Chicago, he finally started sending Byard to generate more speed but even he couldn't get there. If we are going to continue this line of attack, send a corner or very fast LB to disrupt the QB. He doesn't even have to sack him, just bother him enough to mess up the throw or delay him enough for someone else to get there.

JRob understands the importance of getting to the Qb and that is why he drafted Dodd and Wallace last yr. I'm certain he will spend some resources in that area again this yr. But when teams go max protection against you you have to have a secondary that can make the QB hold it longer because your pass rush isn't going to get stymied. We don't have a secondary that can do that. We've got to improve our speed/coverage abilities on the back end.

Give me Eric Berry and Dre Kirkpatrick in FA and then draft Adoree Jackson in the 1st

Since I have been following the team Roos and Rolle have been the only second rounders we have kept past their rookie deal.

In addition to the recent turds --

There were some we did not re-sign due to cap reasons: John Thornton, Antwan Odom, Michael Barrow, Eddie Robinson, Tank Williams, Andre Dyson

Those that started pretty good and faded: Akeem Ayers, Jason Jones, Lendale White

Those that were just okay: Anthony Cook, Sen'derrick Marks, Travis Laboy

And those that sucked: Joey Kent, Jason Layman and Bryant Mix (taken same year at that), Tyrone Calico, Chris Henry, Ben Troupe, Jeremy Nunnley

I have probably missed some, this was just off the top of my head.

Position less and trying to find and advantage is roughly saying the same thing. I get what you're both saying. I think positions are becoming more blurred as the game transforms. Box SS are becoming extinct as well as heavy footed LB who are run stoppers. Safeties need to be able to play both safety positions and LB need to be able to cover with the evolution of the TE and the league becoming more reliant on passing.

Landon Collins looked like a failed S who I thought would need to make a Mark Barron like move to WLB until he dropped 10lbs and adapted to the game around him. Now he has the speed and movement skills to stick on coverage. Cravens/Thompson are they safeties or linebackers? Put them at LB and yes they get mashed in the run game but they can cover the TE and RBs which is now a days more valuable. Barron failed at safety so move him to LB and hope for the best because you already used a first you mine as well get a return on your investment.

It's time for the Titans to acknowledge this and start drafting guys with cover ability in the back 8. We've neglected LBs and CBs and S with cover ability for far too long and that's why our defense is atrocious even with a decent front three and pass rush. The NFL is a dink and dunk league and coverage LB/S are en vogue for good reason.

En vogue does not mean spend top priority draft picks on. Peppers is a late first AT best with a proper coordinator that has a very distinct role for him. You want to talk about swinging at him in the second and I'm game. Top 10? I'm laughing you out of the draft room.

A true CB is more valuable than a flex position lber/Return man

Anyone watch the Giants game last night? They started their UFA from Notre Dame, Romeo Okwara and he had a sack. He has 11 tackles this year. We waste a high 2nd and the Giants get this guy on the cheap. I hope Jrob was paying attention. He runs 4.85 and is good at rushing and in coverage.
