Let's review what an 8 team playoff would mean and the problem with it.

As i said there is no way they would allow 4 of the 8 teams to be from one conference so they would likely rank USC 8th and Wisconsin 9th. That means 2 of the 4 first rd games would be rematches. Mich vs OSU and Bama vs USC. What is desirable about that?

If half the first rd games are between teams that have already played each other that is a waste of time. Then in rd 2 you have the possibility of another rematch game.

So all you posters carrying on about how important head to head is and how important conference championships are contradict yourselves by demanding an 8 team or larger playoff pool.

What a joke if USC's 52-6 loss to Bama doesn't keep them out. What a joke if Wisconsin's loss in their last game was not a dis qualifier.

The BCS line that the regular season is in essence a playoff still holds with a 4 team playoff.

Likely bracket in an 8 team playoff...

Bama vs USC(Rematch of a 52-6 game, joke)
    Clemson vs Oklahoma

OSU vs Michigan(Rematch of a game 2 weeks ago)
    Penn State vs Washington

If Penn State beats Washington we get another rematch game yipee!

    What moron wants that?

Why would they not allow 4 of 8 teams from one conference? If Bama, LSU, Auburn, amd A&M were all at 2 loss and only lost to other ranked SEC teams, you don't think they'd all be in top 8? They'd probably all be the top 5. Hahaha

Says head-to-head matters doesn't mean that a rematch is bad. It simply means that if you're going to allow 1 of the 2 teams in, then it should be the team that was both the head-to-head winner and conference champion.

If Bama was 10-2 SEC champions with 9 straight wins, including a win at LSU, and bama went to Rose Bowl and LSU went to the playoffs, I have a feeling your stance would change fairly quickly. ;)

I have already said i would favor a rule that only conference champions make the playoffs. That rule does not yet exist. Based on that the 2011 Alabama team would have been left out even with the 4 team playoff and they were the best team.

An 8 team playoff with half the teams from one conference would mean a system failure. One of the reasons the big ten has that many highly ranked teams is because the bottom 2/3 of that conference blows! So you win 8 easy games and split 4 hard games and that's your ideal of a playoff team?

The 4 team playoff is ideal because the regular season still matters. When OSU played Michigan both those teams went into that game knowing that they had to win to make the playoffs. An 8 team playoff makes the regular season a joke and even 3 loss teams that lose their conference championship game can get in.

So, 8 out of 120-something teams getting in is a joke? Then you must hate the NFL? lol 6% of teams is a joke, so 38% (12 of 32) of teams is just straight lunacy. :p

The bottom half of every conference in college sports is garbage, though. That's nothing new, and definitely not Big 10 exclusive. There's no reason to punish School A because School C didn't recruit well over the last 3 years. If you're a good team, then you're a good team.

But I can definitely support conference champions automatic bids ... it'd be better than the joke of a system they've got right now.

    Shortbus reading comprehension fail #10,731.

What I said, was that teams could schedule their normal conference schedule, and then leave open games for the last two in the season. Those could be the D2 teams. Basically a D2 team would schedule to play AT an SEC team in week 11, they don't know what SEC team that is as the SEC team going to the SEC championship wouldn't play a D2 team that week.

I'm not going to bother going into more detail, because it's too complicated for you by a long shot. There is literally zero chance you would comprehend what I post as it is above your intellect level.

Seriously comparing college to the nfl? Prior to 1999 there was no playoff in college at all and prior to 1970 bowl games did not count in national rankings.

How is parity in the nfl anything like college?

I made a rock solid case against an 8 team playoff. You have 3 loss teams getting in and teams that got blown out during the season. No matter how many teams get in somebody will feel cheated.

Are you a UT fan? Is that what this is about expanding the playoffs enough so that UT can make it on occasion?

Frankly... too many teams to truly have a "fair" NC.
