    I kinda like Tak. Monsterous speed off the edge. He will probably be a top ten pick pretty soon. We really don't have the speed rusher off the edge.

    Bucannon is actually much better at moving backwards than peppers. His coverage is what helps that close to the LOS. He sticks on Tes. His run fill is whats suspect.

    So IMO saying peppers could fill that role is just frankly misinformed. He's good at attacking edges and as a run defender. In coverage he can't locate the ball well and he often gets turned around.

    Here's a good breakdown on what bucannon does and doesn't do well as well as how the defense is designed to mitigate his weaknesses

    Takkarist McKinley

    I'd draft him for the first name alone.

    I thought that was who you meant, but couldn't find any other mention. Yeah, I like him. Ran a 10.58 100 meter at 230 lbs.

    I am 100% with you up until the safety part. I think Byard will be fine. He is doing pretty good already and is getting better. I think ILB is a bigger need, someone who is good in pass and run defense.

    I penciled in Byard at FS, the issue is who's playing next to him?

    I don't agree with some of the conclusions of the article. In the first play for example, did Buchanon do his job and get it done? Yes. His job was to force the ball back inside...which he does. He looks like he makes contact maybe 2 yards past the LOS. The author sites him taking an angle as a bad thing. But notice the actual LB sized LB 55, who gets completely blocked out of the play. Did it help him that he's lb size? No. Notice the backside S who gets launched on first contact. Buchanon, forced the ball inside...only later to be pancaked. The mistake the author makes is not realizing if Buchanon faced up a 320lb OG, he'd get launched on first contact. This way, at least he can set the edge and do his job...to force the ball back inside. You might also notice how fast 22 (Jefferson?) flies up to make the tackle. This is scheme specific and WHY Buchanon fits their scheme.

    One the second play, again he does his job to force the rb to cut back to the inside (where his help is supposed to be). Again, Buchanon shouldn't get dinged for this play as he did his job. 51, the backside LB is supposed to make the play. At LB size, he gets chop blocked out of the play. 22, who came up so well in the first play to make a good tackle for a short gain, gets caught inside and whiffs.

    Suggesting Buchanon should be 250lbs and be able to play like 3 of the best ILB's (Willis is retired) is ludicrous. None of those LB's have Buchanons speed to the outside or ability to cover one v one down the field as illustrated in this article.

    Point is, a lot of LB's get faked out of their socks when given 1v1 with Adrian Peterson. Acting like this is normal LB play and just 'clean up' duty is taking away from his run D value. Is he gonna blow up or blow thru an OG? No. Can he stack and shed as well as a 250lb ILB? No. But their D isn't designed that way. Their D is designed to stop ppl from running outside on them to force you to run into their strength vs the run...their DL. Additionally, they are designed to get a great pass rush and cover very well not just in the secondary, but the back 7. Buchanon is a big piece of that!

    Peppers isn't as polished as Buchanon right now. He definitely needs coverage work but he is a similar kind of run stopper short of a handful of times he got lazy and got faked out. Playing more of a defined position and working on it's techniques should yield better result. The fact that he has played S, CB, NB, OLB and ILB should tell you he has special athleticism but not all the technique.

    He reminds me of Jalen Ramsey in a way because Ramsey didn't play a ton of CB and didn't play all the techniques he was gonna have to do in the NFL. He's gonna have a little bit of a learning curve. But he has the size, speed, athleticism to be special. Only question is, will he get there. Of course, that is the risk with Peppers as well. Will he get there. If you think his handful of mistakes are concentration/technique things that can be coached out of him, you'll see his incredible potential. If you think they mean he can't do it with better coaching and playing one primary position, so be it. He does have risk as a prospect and frankly, one of the bigger boom or bust players though the later he goes in round 1, the less 'bust' risk there is. As a top 10 pick, he has risk. As a guy who goes in the 20's, much less so. Considering teams have gambled on great athletes like this before fairly high...we'll see what happens.

    One thing against Peppers is that there could be quite a few really good S's coming out and you'd have to have a pretty good reason to want Peppers over say Budda Baker who already shows very good coverage skills, is also an aggressive player, one of their primary blitzers and can intercept the ball and play the ball well (though he's like smaller than Peppers and would play more of a traditional S role).

    @Gut

    I think we disagree with the value of a money backer. To me peppers can't cover nearly like bucannon so the roles don't overlap for me. We can look at the film and see different things. To me bucannon while "okay" as a gap defender - covers much better in space.

    Taking that risk and implementing it in our defense isn't something I'd want to do with either of our first round picks. We need a corner and we need a good LB long before we need a flex/chess piece.

    Second round risk - I'm completely fine with. Myles jack like hype and fall is what I see
